Pain in my eyes when looking at something small

    HI all, just looking for some advice. When I'm reading my phone at night or trying to look at something really small I can see ok for amsecond or too the I feel a bad strain on my eye muscles. I Went. Into optical express to get a test done and they told me it was 20
    Quid or something. After the test I asked them what the results were and they just said "go out and pick out your frames". I had always got 20/20 vision and can still see close up, until the strain kicks in and I really wanted an explanation of what's happening to my eyes so I understand. When I asked again they just said pick out your frames. I asked how much I owe for the test and they wouldn't take money off me, kept saying it will come off the price of the frames. I've accepted I probably need glasses but would love to know more about what exactly is wrOng with my eyes.

    may just be that you need reading glasses, what age are you? did the optom not say what was wrong?

    I'm 29, they wouldn't tell me anything or take money for the test, that way they wouldn't be obliged to give me any results! But they just kept saying pick out your frames! I'm really curious and want to understand what's wrong with my eyes. Should I go to an independent optometrist??

    I'd go to a place that charges properly for the eye exam. Ask all the questions you want and you're more likely to get a decent explanation. You may not even need specs and may just need exercises.

    Yeah I'll do that. I live in newbridge and work in Dublin, near Ballyfermot/clondalkin. Any recommends?

    Just half joking mind! Went for routine examination over there and got told more about my eyes than both a private optician and Specsavers had told me.

    Came back from Australia and went to Optical Xpress who discovered the same eye problem that the optician in Australia had.

    Best go to a couple for a second opinion after you get the recommendations. Chances are your eyesight has diminished somewhat in recent times and you're getting that pain due to eye strain/your eyes having to work harder.
