Could anyone recommend a FTA satellite kit, HD not necessary, already have Saorview built in. I had the in laws sold on Satellite.ie's €99 kit which I got one of earlier in the year, but they only have a HD version now, which is a bit pricier.

Go for the HD one since you got the tv for it why not use it :D as you sai a little bit pricer but you only get what you pay for

Get "Freesat HD" unless it's for Mainland European TV. The saving isn't worth hassle and loss of features on anything less. Esp if you want PVR.

Its for the inlaws. I think the €99 price point was what sold them on it. All they want is a simple way to keep getting BBC1, 2, ITV and channel 4. I've explained about all the other free stations and the great picture, but had very little impact on them.

As Watty pointed out get a branded FREESAT system (http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Freesat_and_Free_to_Air_receivers.html). It might cost a bit more but it will never need to be manually retuned when channels change frequencies or transponders plus it will have a 7 day guide.

    Or
    http://satworld.ie/product-info.php?Combo_HD_Self_Install_System_Kit-pid273.html

If you are living in Dublin I have found them most helpful, and if you call in they will spend time with you explaining whatever you need.

I have not bought receivers from them, but satellite mounting and lnb brackets,
so you do not have to spend a fortune for their help.

By the By, I have no association with them, except as above and calling in for info.

OOOPS, see you have Saorview already, so have a look at their other free to air receivers.

If it's only for UK TV, as others have said, I'd definitely only go for a Freesat branded receiver rather than a FTA one. All transponder changes are automatic, no need to retune in channels, or messing with channel lists. At this stage, I'd push FreesatHD, but if it really is all about the cheapest available, you can get Freesat SD receivers for circa stg£30 (from argos in the UK, not sure if available on line from anywhere).

We've several of the Bush SD receivers (one from Freesat launch), between our house and relations, with no issue. EPG can be a bit slow to load, but I doubt it'd be an issue in this case.

If your using freesat - I think it is best to get a freesat+ recorder, if you have saorview on your TV no doubt your tv is HD compatible so why not get a freesat with hd for few bob more.

Freesat+ would be equivalent to Sky+ and UPC so you can record etc programmes

http://www.freesat.ie/ are good guys if your on the north side, they have kits.
Others would be homebase (have a hd and sd kit), lidl and aldi have offers every no and again, also power city were selling some www.sat4free.ie but it seems to be down
