    Reeling in the Years
Sport - Especially the soccer, like or loathe the pundits it makes for great telly especially in Summer championships.
Den TV - It was brilliantly subversive and I think it treated kids with the respect that they were smart enough to get the 'in' jokes.
Last Picture Show - It was so smart. Really gave value to the film they were about to show.
Other Voices - one of the better music programems on TV
No Disco - This was class, Donal Dineen brought unknown music to a huge audience. pre internet this was a conduit for so many people to discover new and exciting bands.
The old Artisan documentaries - These need to be given 21st century update.
Gerrett Van Gelding - A great showcase for natural Ireland.

1 - Pundits yes, commentry no.
2 - Yes, but it's a shame they never actually made any good homegrown kids' programs: nearly all of the stuff was imported.
    3 - Haven't seen it.
    4 - Ditto
5 - No, until the getthe update.
    6 - Kind of.

Some of the comedy has been good also. Rodge and Podge was both good and somewhat original and stuff like paths to freedom i felt was often overlooked.

When RTE go down the **** it, just do it and not worry about who we offend line, it can be very good. The problem is they tend to be very scared of controversay and breaking new ground.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The Panel in the early days. Went to s***e in later years.

Paths to Freedom was a good production, but fear of it becoming too good probably led to its demise

    Murphy's Micro Quiz-M!

Blackboard Jungle would have been brilliant had it been a drinking game...:pac:

They should fund Hardy Bucks for more series and do more Damo & Iver sketches.

The Den rocked. The shows were nothing special, it was all about the stuff between the shows. Nothing funnier than Ray D'Arcy & Ted having a wrestling match. D'arcy used to be in bits after it. Or Podge lurking in the background watching through the window. Or Zag trying to be smug and superior and failing miserably.

Bachelor's Walk was great craic too.

Oh and that stop-frame animation thingy with Fionn McCool and all. Balor was the bad guy. Used to be on The Den, I think.

Reeling in the years, simple, well done and very effective.

    Glenroe.

Bracken. The short lived forerunner to Glenroe with Gabriel Byrne. I'm surprised they never show repeats of it.

The Lie of the Land. Early 80's (?), it was a geographical tour of Ireland via helicopter, sort of early version of BBC's Coast. Should be redone imo.

Funny but a few weeks ago we were watching videos of this in a mates house, remember the contestants had to go one on one in a computer game. And there was the "hi tech, hi spec" Escort Laser as top prize, rarely won though.:)

The End - it was great, daft, irreverent fun.

    The Beat Box

    Anything Goes

    Murphys Golden Movies

    Murphys Australia

Agree with No Disco big time. Donal Dineen and the sadly missed Uaneen Fitzsimons were class and we got to see and hear music that we never would have otherwise.

Also, those old documentaries were the Hands series. Fantastic. They are made by a guy in Galway who will now charge quite a bit for video copies of it, but they are still worth whatever cost and need to be kept for future generations to see. People laugh at quaint old Ireland but when you see the skill and art that people had here, you can never laugh at it.

Transatlantic Sessions - Irish musicians playing with musicians from other countries.

Go West Along The Road - Traditional Irish music from the RTE archives.

I've only seen a few episodes of both of those programmes, but the ones I did see were great.

    The End.

Yes, I really loved this. Barry Murphy and Sean Moncrieff :D. Not to mention Septic!

I also loved Colin Murphy on the Blizzard of Odd.

Many moons ago RTE made a one-off series called the Burke Enigma.

Featuring an all star cast including Ray McAnally and John Kavangh, it was a political/crime dram involving Dublin criminals and a political party which was a thinly disguised Fianna Fail. It also involved skulduggery in the building trade.

    It was excellent.

Despite being made on 16mm and therefore not subject to any wiping policy,it has never to my knowledge been repeated.

BTW Reeling In The Years is an (admittedly well-done) copy of the BBC's Rock and Roll years.
