the fact that Gallagher has lied about his FF membership has convinced you to vote fir him ?

When Gallagher first appeared, I thought he was just a Z-list celeb off RTE, I didn't know he was a stealth FF candidate.

If I was a solid FF voter, this thread would have convinced me to vote for him.

Good point. I hadn't even heard of him until the election campaign started.

But now that you've pointed it out I can imagine the FF folk sniggering at the thoughts of him pulling the wool over everyone's eyes and giving them a "victory"

YES he is telling lies ........I remember on the tv3 debate he said he wouldn't be sending out leaflets in the post, to save the tax payer 10 million ....well guess what I got in the post today Sean Gallagher leaflets ......The first of his many many lies to come yet.

A certain section of the population will vote for people even if they have been shown to be less than honest .

Willie o dea comes to mind

I'm ok with people voting for liars - it takes all sorts to make up our population

do you think all politicians are saints, don't tell lies, even current, please, come on
they like well paid actors,,all tell people what they want to hear,

Now we are getting somewhere , your defense of Gallagher is that others tell lies ????

    Liars should not be presidents.

nice try but no can do lad
all politicians lie ,SG isn't a politician yet
every candidates so far hasn't been honest so none of them should be candidates .
    but saying that
Michael d will probably win and probably won't last presidential term any ways.
some posters here have been stretching at straws to make other candidates look better
I don't support any party, thank god but when fg,sf and labour supporters do mud slinging ,says ,they are worried about SG

while I wouldn't vote the man on many levels and agree that he is an under the radar FFer ... you have just misrepresented what he said about the flyers.

In the interest of balance each candidate has to be offered the same level of coverage via broadcast media and through the post. Therefore if one candidate sends out flyers they all have to.

He was looking for agreement from the others not to send any out at all.

I don't buy that arguement. If someone didn't want to design and send out a leaflet(s) then who is going to force them to do so? You could say the same for the posters. He made the point of sending one leaflet out with all candidates on it. Why did he not at least minimise the cost to the exchequer by only sending one per household? We received 5 today! Fur coat and no knickers!

Some are telling bigger fibs than others though. You can't just say "everyone tells lies" and brush it all under the carpet.

Because every person registered to vote gets one- not every household. So households where no-one is registered will get none at all. It's in the interest of each voter having all the information available to them- most people won't throw away someone else's post, I believe.

I hadn't heard of him either and I wouldn't associate him with FF at all.

I would not let my imagination run wild .

Tell me one thing that the Litir informed me of today that I did not know about Gallagher before this apart from how ridiculous he would look as President... It's more in my interest to not have that delivered and any taxes I pay to be used in a more constructive manner.

True, the delivery address is dictated by the electorale register. If Gallagher was serious in what he said about waste and protecting the envirnoment (bulls*it) he would have not sent that Litir at all or would have devised some computer programme that would only output one letter to each household where more than one registered voter in a household existed.

    .

The first one I recieved in the door was from Mary Davis. So candidates will inevitably do what others do.

How am I supposed to know what you knew before you read it? Unlike others on here, I'm not going to pretend to be a mind-reader. :)

I do, personally, think that the pre-election literature is a waste of taxpayer money... but at the same time, I can understand the logic of each candidate being allowed the same chance to contact the electorate using public funds.

To be fair to SG, he was the only one who suggested going in together and making the process more efficient- he's not to blame for no-one listening to him and the only ones that benefited were An Post. Maybe this was all just a sneaky way of getting more money into An Post without anyone noticing...

Because there was absolutely no substance on the Litir. No facts, no nothing... Just him looking ridiculous with his second wife.

All candidates did it, agreed. Not all candidates bulls*itted on about the waste and saving the envirnoment!

As Head of State can he attend Church ceremonies while living (in Church eyes) in an official adulterous relationship?

While I'm sure that wouldn't make much of a difference these days (hopefully) I think his first marriage was annulled and therefore, in the eyes of the RCC, never actually happened.

All candidates did it, agreed. Not all candidates bulls*itted on about the waste and saving the environment!

But... you actually agree with him that it was wasteful, yeah? So that's something you have in common. :)

I hate to say it but I actually agree with cdfm on this one .

I don't think divorce should matter any.

I don't think this would matter. What would happen if he was Jewish? or COI? The divorced thing is a non story.

It doesn't matter. I couldn't care if he had 5. Fact is she is the second, annulled or not. I really couldn't give a fig roll... You're obviously a little sensitive on these matters?

This is shocking stuff , I am amazed that the Irish times allowed this to be printed , because Gallaghers FF colleague and ex roommate Noel Whelan works there

There are a lot of Labour Party members who are less than straight about their pasts.

mc guinness family hasn't been brought into it and he's a more toxic canidate
