Has Matt Cooper Lost The Plot?

Was listening earlier today and he was interviewing Gerry Adams about the ETA conference. He asked Mr. Adams his opinion on the H-Block hunger striker who built the Priory Hall apartments and proceeded to shout and bawl dowen the line before Admas had a chance to respond.

After Cooper's rant, Adams said 'Matt - I'm agreeing with you', which he subsequently ignored and went off on one again.

I was once a big fan of Matt's, but, in the past couple of years, he has became one of the most arrogant, rude, and abusive interviewers in the modern media. And the sad thing is - he doesn't have to.

It is truly pathetic to listen to. I'm no fan of GA and the Shinners, but even THEY deserve some courtesy and manners, something MC seems to have forgotten completely.

Not his fault, just comes naturally to Corkonians

his tactic is to disagree with everyone and half back his own opinion in a good light. That show puts me asleep.

I am actually thinking about that and I can't, maybe the lads that do off the ball on Newstalk are actually pretty good. I like Vincent Brown but he does have his flaws.

I heard that and thought it a very tabloid approach to take, its as if he was expecting/hoping Adams would stick up for the developer because he was an IRA member.

    Radio forum topic really.

I do like him but you can tell the people he has issues with when he has them on.

The other thing I find curios is the huge amount of Rugby coverage, spend an entire hour on a thursday night doing it and then all of the sports section the next day

It's not the first time he's conducted an interview in such a manner. I used to enjoy listening to him too, but he's gone downhill big time over the last good while.

They have a lot of regular interviewees though.

Its an entertaining show though all the same.

sean o'rourke is ok but alas works for RTE so has to remember who his pay masters are.

He's the rudest man on radio. Seems to think that he's a somebody. A voice of the people or something.

I listened to George Hook on the way home instead. That American guy was on it. He's fun. It's a bit like listening to an AH troll on the radio.

All or most RTE interviewers like the sound of their own voices too much.

Michael Graham I think is his name, he's brilliant, a real right wing asshole but having great craic being one and himself and Hook really buzz off each other. Great radio

Edit : On topic, I really like Matt, he usually seems fair to me and gets all the relevant guests though I haven't been able to listen to him much lately

Got to say I am a big fan of Matt Cooper, I think he does inflict his interviews on the interviewee! Its his style, seem to remember him harsly questioning the ministers of FF long before the current depression.
I would be a supporter of SF views, if not a fan of Adams or McGuiness, think SF needs to get rid of their IRA past before they can be a serious party in the south, but thats a different thread.
As for Matt Cooper, are we not allowed to question the almighty SF leaders? (missed this interview so cant comment directly on it)

I tend to listen to him over Drive time and Hook's show, just a personal preference. overall I think he does a good job even if a little tabloidy sometimes.

I would never go out of my way to listen to him but often on long journeys he was about the only one not playing dreadful music or taking a tabloid approach to news journalism. Listened to the show for the first time in about a year last week and turned it off after 5 minutes, it's become the News of the World of radio. He seems to shout at anyone he dislikes and will make wide sweeping statements and then simply ignore them if the person agrees with him.

Sean O'Rourke works for RTE. Go back and look at that post again and see what it was a response to.

You'll find that you are in fact wrong again

Ah that was all a myth. I heard he never shutup about himself in the dressing room and had a different Ferrari at the training ground every morning.
