Man United started to sparkle in near the end of the match when the big guns came on and did the business to secure us a point.

To be fair Rio did tip Adam and he lost a bit of balance but the ref can't always make the right decisions.

Carroll seems to have settled into being a Plan B.

Carroll is no way near good enough he is just tall and has a power header.

Fair enough, I might be labouring the point but I'm just very disappointed in United today.

Fair play to De Gea. Some keeper dough nutting with some of them shots. Got United out of some sticky situations round the box and covered every hole, even when there was just a sprinkling of players there, so it's not fair to say United were jammy.

    Contact != Foul

Depending on the contact, yes it does actually.

Shoulder to shoulder conact - no foul.

Kicking someone in the ankle after they've skinned yhou - foul.

    See?

The difference is, a ref will almost NEVER give the foul if you don't go down, so you better be quick in deciding to go down or continue on.

Downing, Suarez, gerrard, Adam... I'm starting to wonder if there's a diving class taken on your first day at Liverpool...

Yeah and a similar list could easily be compiled for United and the argument would go back and forth for eternity. Just give it a rest.

I didn't see anything similar from the united players.

    Liverpool on the other hand...

Downing should have been booked, no question.

It ruins the game and the teams that are more guilty of it should be targeted.

Anyway, I'll take that point. <3 Chicharito! He scored at Anfield last season too so here's hoping it becomes an annual thing for him.

Both teams now have away games in Europe to look forward to.

Quarryman, I agree Downing should be chastised for his dive.

So however should Ashley Young who dived into Lucas to win a free kick.

Adam didn't dive, he was clipped (according to Rio) & he went down which was fair enough (as per Gary Nevilles take on it after the match).

So, mirroring the score line, the diving ended up 1-1.

Pretty poor stats for a home team.

    And it starts to spiral...

There's loads of footage on youtube of United players diving. There's heaps of video of Liverpool players doing the same. Chelsea, Arsenal, Barca etc - the proof it out there. One would have to be completely naive and of inferior intelligence not to appreciate that it's rife in the game and no team is immune from it.

As for Adam today. Well, opinions will differ and it's not clear-cut. I think he was fouled but he went down easy. If you disagree, fair enough. The 'diving lessons' accusation though is tantamount to pots calling kettles black.

The United fans? Probably why they wanted a more attacking team.

A reasonable reply but I still think Suarez was no angel either. Numerous times he hit the ground with little or no contact.

Still undecided about the Adam free kick. It really must have been the slightest contact. These players have immense balance and strength and could often stay on their feet if they had to. Park is a good example, you really have to hit the guy hard before he'll go over, immensely honest player. Same for Kuyt in fairness. It's just disappointing to see and for me today (and more often than not) Liverpool were the more guilty party.

Look at drogba, a stiff breeze was all that was needed for him but he's almost completely cleaned up his game.

Torres went the other way. Initially honest and hungry to stay on his feet for a goal he became a disgrace.

Edit: young was obstructed, that wasn't a dive for me.

Anyway, back on topic, 1-1, fair result.

My take on the controverisla incidents:

    - Downing should have been booked for diving, Evra should have been booking for flashing the imaginary card. Very poor form from Downing, don't like seeing that at all. Gerrard must have been mentoring him in training.

    - The two handballs were dealt with well, neither a peno.

    - Young should have been booked for diving aswell.

    - Rio should have been sent of for a second yellow for his "challenge" on Adam, no idea how Lucas gets a yellow in the first half for his challenge and Rio gets off scott free when we are just outside the box and Adam has a 2 on 1 when he gets by Rio. Ref bottled it big time. Adam went down very very easily though.

No one really stood out as being clear MoM, but giving it to Gerrard was a joke. De Gae had one of those keeper performances where he will get a lot of praise but all the saves he made looked good but if he conceded any of them it would be considered a bit of a howler. First half was terrible aswell, horrible for a neutral.

Poor match but Utd will be the happier of the two because Liverpool put more in to it...

Liverpool's 'chase everything and don't let them settle' tactics destroyed the game from a footballing perspective because (a) they were nullified when they got the ball by utd's 5 in midfield (b) utd didn't have enough attacking threat to punish them high up the pitch.

So it was all a big game of huff and puff with Liverpool treating it like a massive cup final and utd just trying to match them, hoping they'd burn out by the end of the match when they could introduce the big guns...

Penalty claims were rubbish claims & *that* free kick was a dive - 'contact' doesn't automatically mean 'free kick'. If that were the case De Gea should have gotten a free kick every time Liverpool flooded men around him for corners... Ferdinand was also shoved off the ball / knocked to the ground by Suarez earlier in the match but we don't see Liverpool fans apply the same 'contact' rule which they're so eager to support for the free kick incident.

Downing & Evra should both have been booked for the other diving incident. In the end a fair result because neither side played football worthy of winning the match, but Liverpool definitely dictated the pace which was chaotic. Usually works for them but Fergie anticipated it today & put out a side that said 'checkmate'.

i'd agree with all of that but i'd add one more point

Liverpool created 4 or 5 good chances and I don't think Man U created one decent chance apart from the goal, they scraped a point and will be delighted with it after hanging on by their fingernails after equalizing

so all in all Man U will be happier after that as they maintain their 6 point gap despite a very average performance and creating SFA
