Liverpool's cup final, whilst Manchester United don't even see the need to go full strength.

That's all well and good if Utd win. If not it's a big mistake, and City will capitalize on it.

Why do united not have any defenders on the bench

Because they're all in the starting 11 it seems :o

Looks like Fergie guessed (correctly) that Gerrard will play behind Suarez, and has stuck Jones in there to keep him quiet. Can't see it working, tbh. United team looks like it lacks pace, which is unusual, only Welbeck and Young are quick.

The battle will be in central midfield, and that's a battle Liverpool have won in the last couple of games against Utd at Anfield. Jones/Fletcher/Park are battlers, with Giggs and Young providing the creativity. Against Lucas, Adam, Kuyt, Gerrard and Downing - Liverpool's midfield still looks stronger to me.

    Should be a good game.

Smalling, Jones, Evra and Park are all quick.

Tbh, I love this United midfield, never crossed my mind that Fergie would do something like this, but I think it's perfect.

Adam tore United a new one last year both times but Lucas has a lot more responsibility than usual with it being him having to take care of all defensive responsibility. Rooney would have had a field day imo :(. Think if Park comes inside as he does so well it'll cause a lot of problems for Pool.

    No Rooney, Welbeck to start.

De Gea, Smalling, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Park, Fletcher, Giggs, Jones, Young, Welbeck

    DDG
    Smalling-Rio-Vidic-Evra
    Jones-Fletch-Giggs
    Park
    Young
    Welbz

    I'd imagine.

jaysus all out defend by UTD... i knew Fergie was ****tíng this fixture but that's taking the biscuit... might work out for him though... counter attack city....

That's a laugh. Liverpool are playing at home and are playing the same formation!

Reckon we'll take it. Especially considering if we need something, our bench is beyond fantastic. Just as long as Liverpool don't hit us from the start, could be over early if they do.

You obviously missed Ferguson saying that this is always their biggest game of the season.

Good to see you're continuing your fantastic contribution to Liverpool match threads.

it's only perfeck if utd win though... i dont believe you really think that is a good team with the players he has left on the bench..come off it...

I can't believe the team Fergie put out - so defensive...
I hope liverpool win but i bet ya the post match interviews or the papers will not slate him for putting that team out...

Apart from the obvious matter of the difference in points between the teams should United win, there is also the matter that Liverpool will draw more games against mediocre opposition than United. So today's game is huge for Liverpool. Bigger for them than United. And that is reflected in the team Fergie has picked. A draw will do and a chance to keep United players like Rooney fresh.

Please show me where I said this was a good team?
I would have gone a different way, but I love the midfield. I can see it working perfectly. Can also see it going wrong, tbf, but I don't think it will.

Anyone else think the official 19 logo United use looks more like a 10? I don't like it! :o

nothing wrong with it as it's his perogative... but tell me you were not disappointed when ya seen that team... it's a total gamble by Fergie...and hopefully it doesnt pay off...

    Wow!

Paully I used to enjoy your posts and thought you were insightful to the game.

However your posts in the last two match threads (calling Suarez a C U Next Tuesday) have really shows that you have a hatred for Liverpool and makes me lose any respect for you, and to think that some people think you are mod material!
