Television reductions in Tesco

Hi From today there are hundreds of old tv lines reduced accross Tesco stores. Some cuts are big and others aren't so big. think it's to do with the digital changeover. I'm not fully up to speed with the whole changeover thing so not sure if these tv's are usable after the swich over but I'm gessing it's just a matter of…

Picked up 22in samsung monitor/tv full hd mpeg 4 picking up soarview for 149 in tesco longwalk dundalk on tuesday was at least 1 more in stock.

Sooo someone somewhere on the net says theres laods of cheap tellys in tesco
Doesnt mention which branch(es)
Everyone goes to their local tesco and theres none there but while there buys other stuff
So who benefits from this?

I used to work for Tesco in the past,IT Related.

That's odd, My dads always getting things that never went on sale. Like a HD camera for €35 because it on the end of a line and they were trying to get rid of them but they never went onto the shelves becasue the staff took them.

I remember one time there was 50% off samsung laptops because they were getting in newer ones. I went into a local Tesco and was told they had none left, So I rang my dad and asked if he could get me one in his place, he said hold on ill call them, in 10 mins go and ask for them again. Went up to the hardware manager and I asked if he had any of the laptops this time he says, yeah I have a few put by for staff, ill go and get on one.

The other trick was being told whatever is on sale and will be going out on the shelves at whatever time, be waiting for it.

It clearly happens, contracted or not.

I explained in my first post that these will be difficult to find but they do exist somewhere. Not getting one isn't proof of me inventing this so you go to a Tesco store looking for a bargain Telly and buy a donut instead!!!

To be honest there is nothing much on the list to get excited about, considering some of them won't be able to watch Irish DTT.

Nothing much in Tesco in Mahon reduced bar a couple of Technika sets for about €120 or so.

Aboslutely not an issue for me - I live in an area with zero reception anyways.

Most people would have Sky/UPC I would have thought too.

Well just back from Tesco Dundalk old shopping centre.

None of the good stuff (some of those Sony 32 and 37 inchers S/V/W 5500s are fully MP4/saorview compliant and at those prices are an absolute steal if you can find one, or if they exist)

List of what there is:

(also a 32" Tosh that I didn't get a model# for)

19 LV250 (not on the list above as far as I can see)

Couple of 16" something or other brand that didn't look too hot.

All price reductions were on shelf edge label (conforming to prices in above list) and there was nothing flying out the door, or riots in the aisles...the technikas at 149 aren't great value IMO...if you can find any of the LG 22LD350 @99 that's a cracker (got the last one in this store few weeks back for 130, and it was a bargain at that price)

I didn't bother with Longwalk Dundalk, traffic is a nightmare in town today...

I'm sick to death of people dragging this up everytime a telly is mentioned. I will NEVER not have a sky subscription, so saorview doesnt even exist to me. And I am not alone.

For those without sky or a wish for a monthly subscription, it's important info because in a yrs time these tellies will be monitors andf there'll be no Irish channels on them.

im assuming that I can just buy a separate saorview box and bypass that problem? So its not really an issue?

There's too many people moaning about lack of compatibility with watching the irish stations when it's all switched over. AT least half of those people you will find on another thread or in real life moaning about RTE and that's why they don't pay their tv licence, cos they don't watch it. Most people in Ireland can't be arsed with the switch over because they generally have sat boxes hooked to their tv's as it is.

They may have sky in the living room but what about bedrooms etc ? And if someone can afford sky in all their rooms surely they would be buying the latest tv not one that would be 4 years sitting on a shelve in tesco. And as far as set top boxes go, your going to have the tv over a long period of time and having to buy a set top box erodes much of the saving, plus the hassle of having to plug in two pieces of equipment to view a basic channels.
