    How?

He has looked sharper and showing some of his form the past couple of games

He was unplayable against City last season when he also seemed to have got himself in better nic (only for season close to fook that up :() and there is nothing to concern me from the UTD back line that can stop him if he plays like that again .

That would be a surprise alright.

Hardly, considering he scored in his last game. I'll make you a bet. Two weeks soccer forum access says Carroll will score tomorrow on the condition that he starts. You alone.

Sean Bateman, will you come on here and eat your words if Andy Carroll scores the winner tomorrow?

Because if he does you're going to have a lot of threads thrown back at you.

No, because whether Carroll scores the winner tomorrow (for either Liverpool or United) is irrelevant...he still won't be at the level a £35 million player should be.

    Juan Sebastian Veron???

Veron was a world class player. He just didn't fit in at United (probably because he needed to be played in Keane's position rather than here there and everywhere but primarily on the right wing).

In fairness, this game is a bit too important to start Carroll. I'd have him on the bench and Henderson too.

Liverpool are 21/10 to win. United are 6/4. The game's at Anfield.

What does the above tell you about the chances of both sides?

Carroll's 23/10 to score at any time during the game. They're shockingly long odds for a £35 million striker playing at home. You should take the bet, MagicMarker.

    Meh. Not really worth it.

Don't agree with that mixednuts but your entitled to your opinion. City can be very suspect at the back at times. Andy Carroll played well that day. But that was an exception to his general performance since his time at Liverpool.

He very may well score tomorrow. Won't change many peoples opinions. A good season will, but that hasn't even started yet.

Give it a rest Murphy. I'm Liverpool through and through but at least I'm man enough to admit that Carroll is fairly woeful.

You can't have it both ways....if Carroll scores a winner tomorrow then he's on the way to start paying back his fee.

However, Veron was an expensive flop at Utd now that's Keane's fault rather than Ferguson overpaying for the wrong player, just like he has with Berbatov, but Utd fans don't talk about that.

You are judging Carroll over the last few month's when he's coming back from injury and his LFC career is only getting going. Either way I don't understand Utd fan's obsession with the fee when Carroll would never have been bought if Torres hadn't left.

Is this really that hard for you to understand?

Veron was a world class player whose signing just didn't work out.

Carroll is not and never will be a world class player.

    Comparing the two is ridiculous.

I love the "it wasn't really £35 million 'cause of Torres" argument...you'd swear it was Monopoly money Liverpool had spent rather than hard cash!

I just want to say that as a Liverpool fan I find Murph's posts a bit embarrassing. Obviously Veron was a proven world class player, Carroll had a handful of games and did ok for Newcastle. Carroll has a hell of a lot to prove and there is NO WAY he should be in the starting 11 tomorrow.

And Murph, before this gets out of hand please leave Dani Pacheco and Henderson out of it.

I'm talking sense!!! In your deluded world Carroll is one of the greatest players who ever lived. Wake up Knoxy... Carroll is a half-decent striker, he will never NEVER be a great player.

I'd say you were one of those fans that was saying we have to give Stan more time even after getting trounced 5-2 by Cyprus.

Fair play to you, Chessplayer. Your honesty is admirable.

Nothing annoys me more in a football sense than hearing fans claiming that everything in their team's garden is rosy. Over recent months I've been a strident critic of David De Gea and United's transfer policy in relation to the midfield area. Blind loyalty is just that...blind. Head in the sand stuff is just a betrayal of your club. Real fans want to see their teams develop, win and dominate. If I was a Liverpool fan I'd be livid about the £35 million wasted on Andy Carroll. If United had spent £15 million on Carroll, I'd be livid. Mark my words, three years from now Carroll will be trying to get his head on long balls delivered by his teammates at Stoke or Sunderland.

£35m for him was overpaying. No doubt. Big time.

However, I do think he will be a very good player for us (without ever being a £35m player). I also think that he will almost certainly provide more value in his time at Liverpool than Berbatov for example has done at Utd (where he is pretty much finished now).

When did I ever say that? Talk about jumping to conclusions man. Carroll is a good player and right now nothing more but something you seem to forget and write off is he is still very young but your set in stone ignorant view of him is embarrassing as a so called Liverpool fan. Give him a chance ffs.

Also while im struggling to see the link between what Ireland's last manager and my opinion on Andy Carroll have to do with each other I was at that Match in Nicosia that night and lets just say you're fairly off the mark with that one!!!

I genuinely disagree with you but I can see where you're coming from.

Berbatov's a funny one. He's incredibly talented and contributed a lot to United's title win last season. Nonetheless, his £30.75 million signing doesn't float a lot of people's boats. Having said that, Paris St Germain and some German clubs were apparently willing to pay £20 million for him during the summer and Fergie apparently doesn't want to let him go.

Ultimately, I don't think that the comparison is valid.

Berbatov is undoubtedly a classy player, whereas Carroll is not.

That's a silly post. Unless you couldn't give a flying f..k about your club, the waste of funds that could be used to buy world class talent should annoy you.

I love the way certain Liverpool fans think that Andy Carroll's gonna transform caterpillar like into Alan Shearer. He's not. The guy is pound for pound the worst signing in the history of English football.

Who the hell cares if Carroll is a flop or not.

If he scores and has a good game some people will be wrong.
If he misses two open goals and plays badly the others will be wrong.

I really miss a decent Match Thread these days, not one thats been trolled to fcuk like this one and most that have went before this season.

    United to nick a win.
