I am having trouble with my phone connecting to my wi fi at home, its says its connected but the bar is faded. Its as if the phone is connected but blocked.Any suggestions..?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,230 ✭✭✭Keith186

Dub13 that's what comes up when it's trying to connect.

On the home screen, press Menu>Settings>Wireless & networks then turn your wifi off in there and turn it back on. It will display the status when it's trying to connect.

My guess is it will say trying to obtain IP address or something along those lines.
If it does, test a laptop or something else on the wifi and make sure it can load webpages. If it doesn't then the problem is with your ISP/Wifi.

If the laptop is working fine then try rebooting the router and 'forget' the network on your phone and then reconnect and reenter the Wep/Wpa key.

Might get it working, give it a shot.

I have a Desire HD running Gingerbread (2.3.3). I've been trying to root it now for a bit. I've tried both VISIONary+ and GingerBreak, neither have worked. Is there anything else I should try?

Im in the same situation, tried what you tried and didnt root, you have to downgrade from 2.3.3 first, this is by far and the best guide out there
    http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0

Not done it yet, you can skip the gold card section if ur HD is not branded, mine isnt
Going to do it when I pluck up the courage, looks easy enough

Check after with Root Check 3.7 app to see if successful

Bluetooth....I only ever used a Headset with my Hero. Once it was paired it asked for the code which for me was 1234 (bt devices usually have a standard code such as 1234 or 0000) once it was paired all i needed to do was click connect....so i cant really help there.

Regarding the HTC sense...I haven;t actually used but I would really reccomend 'Seekdroid' it costs about €2 but you can get the location within seconds, get call logs, get messages, erase the phone and SD memory...I think its great.

Without even looking at that link I'd doubt itd be any good

Yeah look at it, you'll get a crap quality phone, no updates, no custom ROMs, and likely a crappily built version of android

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,677 ✭✭✭staker

Was thinking the same myself, some of the phones don't even show up on a google search.

Do Androids have a factory in-built GPS (Galaxy S2)?
    I lost mine:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,654 ✭✭✭shadowninty

Yeah, every decent Android has Assisted GPS (need a network connection to help it pinpoint you)
Google navigation should work fine for ya

    possible silly question:

I switched over to android for IOS. I still want to listen and get all my podcasts that I download via itunes. Is it just a simple case of copying them over via usb onto my S2?

I don't use this but Doubletwist Player + Airsync by Doubletwist, should sort you out the airsync just allows wifi syncing and is a paid app

Hi all, I'm a total newbie at all this android stuff but I just got a Samsung G s2 last week, and I love it but I'm not sure if this an issue with my phone or is it a vodafone problem but I'm finding internet coverage really bad on it, when it works it's great but I often can't get online I had a problem receiving and sending MMS but as it turns out when I don't have 3g coverage they don't send, but I can make phone calls and receive SMS so sorry if this is vague but l've never had a problem like it with any other phone I ever had! please please someone help me!!!

What network is it on? You should be able to send via EDGE even if you dont have 3G. I remember 3 locked my old 6120c to 3G only in the firmware.

Just out of curiosity, did you change network?

You should be able to send/receive MMS using GPRS.

You can force your phone to stay on 2G, by going to Settings >> wireless and networks >> mobile networks >> their should be some option here to choose 3G only (WCDMA), 2G only, or 2G/3 G auto (default setting). This will likely improve your signal strength and also your battery life, but hamper upload/download speeds significantly.

It's probably not your phone, but again out of curiosity what baseband (radio) do you have Settings >> About Phone >> baseband -you should have number that ends in KG6 or something like that.

Hi thanks for the replies, I'm with Vodafone, haven't changed companies been with them for a few years now after changing from O2, the baseband number is19100BUKG1 and the network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) I've changed it to WCDMA only but still nothing :/

Shadowninty: I used to see EDGE on my old Blackberry but I've never seen it on this phone, sorry I know it's frustrating trying to explain things to a complete newbie at this stuff and I'm not very techy!

Haha your grand, if you see 3G but never EDGE sign then I think they locked it to 3G only somehow, maybe someone else can confirm?
    Its no bother sure :p

I've been taking photos with the camera only to find that after viewing them once or twice many of them become 'unopenable'. All I get is a card-shaped icon with a symbol of a head-and-shoulders.

Each of these cards still figures as a photo in the Gallery but like I say, I can't open them.

It's bugging me because I took a rake of photos for my kids birthday and they all appear to be lost now.

Some photos remain fine though which has got me even more stumped.

    Any ideas lads?

Try plugging the phone into a PC and transferring the file accross 'drag and drop' and see if you can open them on the PC.

Are they saving to phone or memory card?
You could try changing this around and seeing if this helps

I don't know why they bother calling the Galaxy a mobile - the battery lasts about 5 minutes it has to be on charge all the time - and the heat it generates means its uncomfortable to have in your pocket. Its the biggest heap of cr*p I have ever come across!

I don't know which Galaxy you're referring to there but I've never had any problems with my S2. There can be a battery problem which is caused by the device constantly trying to go into deep sleep mode when the screen is off for more than a set amount of time but that can be solved if you follow the instructions over at the XDA forums. A quick search should help the battery problem. You can also follow the other power saving tips by turning off wifi and bluetooth and gps etc when you're not using them and turn down the screen brightness etc.
