What if Liverpool go for the 3 at the back?

    Carra skrtl agger
    Johnson?. Enricky

    Lucas gerrard Adam

    Kuyt. Suarez

I've left out downing to free gerrard up a bit in the middle. Plus Enrique and suarez can work the left

Then you still have Carroll downing bellemy Henderson and Coates to pick from to replace or change the formation

Nani, and Rooney didn't get a look in last year. Berbatov I remember hitting the post early on but then having a quiet game after that.

Liverpool had a different defence last year :)

Also, the midfields were different, I think the United attack will have better service from misfield than what they had last year.

I'm not taking away from the Liverpool performance, obviously United weren't "shít" or anything of the sort, they aren't a "shít" team/squad, but there were mitigating factors.

    ************************

I expect a red card for Carragher in this game.

United have lost on each of the last four occasions that they failed to name Fletcher in the starting XI against their old enemy.
The only action the midfielder played in any of those matches was as a late substitute in the 3-1 defeat at Anfield last March..
To further illustrate his importance, United’s last three wins against Liverpool have come with Fletcher in the centre of midfield.

I imagine Saturday will go something like this.

The opening 10 minutes will be frantic. Both teams spurred on by hatred as much as a desire to win.
Liverpool score a goal in this period thanks to Suárez. The next 20 minutes become a kicking competition. Vidic and Charlie Adam are sent off in this period.
UTD grab two goals in the 15 minutes left before half time thanks too a Rooney free kick and a Carragher own goal.

Liverpool bring on Carroll at half time. He scores a header 30seconds into the second half. Anfield goes bonkers and the games really "opens up".
The match thread descends into farce. 23 posters are given a lifetime ban.

At the 60min mark De Gea hauls down Carroll. Suarez converts the penalty. Liverpool are now in the ascendancy. Suarez grabs another 5 minutes later thanks to 30 yard curler.
Young kick Kuyt in the nuts. Suárez pulls Fletchers hair. All four are sent off. The match thread becomes the biggest thread in boards.ie history.

Fergie throws on Berbatov, Wellbeck and Chico to help Rooney. Nani throws a strop at being substituted and leaves the stadium immediately.
Rooney grabs his second in the 81st minute. UTD now control the match. Between the 81st and 89th minute they hit the wood work 17 times. The fourth official looks to be preparing the added time board with the number two visible on it.

Berbatov backheels the ball into the net from 20yrds bang on the 90th minute mark. Fergie berates the fourth official. He holds up the added time board, it has 7 written on it.
Kenny goes "potty". Fergie takes a swing at him. Both managers are sent off. Both refuse to go anywhere.

Utd are awarded a penalty in the 92nd minute, Rooney takes it, Reina saves. Liverpool counter and score via Gerrard. From the restart Rooney tries it from the half way life. It goes in off the underside of the crossbar.
We are in the 98th minute when Phil Jones picks the ball up in his own penalty box, runs past everyone on the pitch and drills it into the back of the net.

There are fans on the pitch at Anfield. The ref is assaulted. The match thread has 75 mods.
As the players as managers head for the tunnel there is a mass brawl. Reports come in that Nani is doing doughnuts in his Lamborghini on Fergies front lawn.
Kenny throws a slice of Pizza at Fergie during his post match interview. It has an extra mozzarella topping.

Boards.ie cant handle the connection load and catches fire. Planes fall from the sky and then..................

2 of the 4 are different, United attack while having 2 of the same players is very different this year.

Can't wait for this game. Liverpool will win this one handily enough, we usually beat United at Anfield.

I think Vidic might be affected by what happened to him on Tuesday night, Carroll will take advantage.

Liverpool will win the midfield battle and the game, 2 or maybe 3 nil.

I usually hate these games, much prefer the Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Spurs games.. maybe thats down to fear! 'm all for banter but I'm leaving for home 60 miles away and going to watch it in my folks house... safer there! :)

Should be a good game and I'm going to go for a draw. My heart says 3-1 to United, my head says 2-2.

Havent read up on team news but I expect United to line up as: DeGea, Smalling, Jones, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Rooney, Chico

Anyhoo enjoy the day everyone and be good!

      19 times :)

One thing I forgot to mention. When United got beat here 1-3 last season, a lot of people are forgetting that they had played Chelsea at SB in the league a few days before hand on the Tuesday(Remember Vidic got sent off and missed Liverpool game?) So that gave Liverpool an obvious advantage preparation and fitness wise, especially seeing as it was in March.

I'm not taking anything away from Liverpool that day as they deserved their win and may well have won regardless, I just thought it was a contributing factor at the time as United looked uncharacteristically sluggish the whole 90 mins.

I should also point out at the time that Rooney was only just beginning to come back to form around then and will be a different animal this time around.

And just thinking about it there, I can't see us playing 4-3-3, I'm almost sure it'll be 4-4-1-1. I reckon Fergie will trust Rooney to get back in and help out the midfield a little more than usual if we're getting overrun.

The current group of players that are first choice simply aren't used to playing 4-3-3 with eachother and I just think we should play to our strengths first and foremost and let Liverpool worry about us, not the other way around.

also, obligatory mod note. play nice.

anymore of the shíte that went on in the Mersey thread will not be tolerated. you've been fairly warned. and that includes certain Liverpool posters who looked for rises out of people that time.

don't be a díck. you've been warned here, and some of you have been warned by PM before. no extra warnings.

same shít this time, and we won't be down on numbers mod-wise this time so we can deal with it as it happens.

      thanks.

These were the teams last year.

Aurerlio went off early and Carra went to RB with the Greek going into the middle.

Liverpool totally bossed the game in the middle and uniteds top 2 or nani hardly got a sniff.

Carrick and Scholes were shockingly bad last year, I'm expecting whatever utd to put out this time in CM to be an improvement.

      Liverpool:

      Reina,

      Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio,

      Meireles, Lucas, Gerrard , Maxi,

      Kuyt, Suarez.

      Manchester United:

      Van der Sar,

      Rafael, Smalling, Brown, Evra,

      Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs,

      Berbatov, Rooney.

It was kind of hard for Nani to get a sniff last year when a horror tackle put him off in the first half. If that got the red card it deserved then the game may have turned out different.

United were off form going into that game last year, coming off the loss of the undefeated record at Chelsea. The inexperienced back 4 didn't help matters. Ony 3/4 of that team above will be playing on Sat. I feel a lot more confident this time around, especially with Fletcher back in the side.

United fans should remember that even though we were outplayed last year, Liverpool's 3 goals came from individual errors. We can't let Liverpool live off errors again. That's the key. Cut out the mistakes and our superior class will see us through

Defence would want to sort themselves out for this if we give Liverpool as many chances as basel and norwhich they will punish us .

Big time and not even just them games but all season we have been giving the opposition a lot more than usual goal scoring chances. Hopefully with Vidic returning and having a decent bit of gametime for Serbia it can settle things up at the back. I've a feeling it will be himself and Rio in the centre and Smalling & Evra at RB & LB.

Looking forward to this game more than usual because of the international break. Hard to see how this will go but no doubt it will be close and think we might nick a 1-0 win.

If Liverpool win at Anfield on Saturday, it will be the first time Manchester United have lost four consecutive away games to a specific team in the Premier League.....

      ........according to the Beeb

fully agree, if United can break even with possession then they should come out on top. I fancy all of Uniteds front 4 to be able to beat their immediate opponent.

      Seriously!!

Nani/Young/Valencia will not outplay Enrique anyway. And Johnsons defence has improved a lot. I wouldnt fancy Carra and Skrtel against Shrek and Hernandez though, but if there is no supply Rooney will have to drop off so can see Hernandez being less effective.

The key is to win the midfield battle and limit the supply to Shrek and Hernandez

They will put him up to the toughest test he has had yet in a Liverpool shirt, helped out by the fullbacks he wont have it easy. I certainly dont think you can say he wont be outplayed. Our success comes from our wingers on the break, they are probably our strongest point along with Rooney and Chich/Welbz, I fancy us having a lot of success down both sides of the pitch.
