I'm really happy with the way we offer new contracts based on performance. Last season we offered Smalling a new contract just 1 year after signing him, then Hernandez, now Cleverley and Welbeck.

Exactly, and thats the way it should be. I don't see how some clubs (and Arsenal are notorious for this) offer good wages to young players which are not far off that of the first team players once they join the club.

For instance, their wage structure is rigid enough, but the gap between the younger players and the likes of Van Persie aren't massive.

No wonder they have a huge wage bill, paying the likes of Diaby and other fringe players a tidy sum to sit on the sidelines, or worse, being injured.

Think I also read that this could be the biggest factor when it comes to moving these players on. You have no other team (or a huge lack of them) that will pay the likes of Bendtner's wages, when he isnt proven to come in and actually perform to the levels that those wages would entail.

Why would you offer another contract to Hernandez when he got a new one earlier in the year? Unless there is a release clause that Real Madrid can meet then he's going nowhere and can't do anything about it.

He hasn't signed a new contract yet. It's a bit overdue tbf, there were talks of it in the Summer but it never materialised.

How long was his original contract? 2? 3?

Ah I'd imagine its was 4 years to be honest, which is pretty standard. Three years is for the fogies.

Yeah, 4 years is the standard for that type of signing and I'm almost sure it was that.

His status in the team has risen considerably since joining so he definitely deserves a new deal.

Well with 2 seasons after this season ceases I don't see the big panic yet. Would be nice to get his signature now but waiting till the Summer wouldn't that big of...

Ah I can't see it happening myself. Chich seems like a loyal fella and I'm sure he wouldn't do the dirt of Fergie after everything he did for him and his family.

Ha! Never mind Hernandez being a loyal fella, I can't imagine Madrid wanting him anytime soon. Why would they when they have Higuain, Benzema, Ronaldo, Kaka, Ozil and Di Maria?

You can only play 3 or 4 of them at a time, and they are all vastly superior than Hernandez. It's just a pathetic tabloid rumour. You'd think they'd put a bit more creativity into their lies and invent something somewhat plausible.

Not saying your wrong, because we all know this story is a heap of turd, but isnt it almost well known at this stage that Benzema and Kaka don't exactly have the full support of Mourinho?

Hence the battle between himself and the board to get anothers striker which resulted in Valdano (I think) leaving the club?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,366 ✭✭✭✭Kylo Ren

    But Blatter it's The Sun.

Why would they ever lie to us?

Around last January, there was whispers that Mourinho was unhappy with Benzema, and wanted another striker because Higuain was injured at the time. However, I severely doubt it would still be the case now. Benzema kicked on big time last year and scored something like 26 goals in total. He lost something like 7kg over the Summer aswell and looks a class act this season. I'd say Mourinho is delighted with him now tbh.

There was plenty of rumours flying around about Kaka, and to be honest, it's hard to know what to believe. All I know is that this season, he is getting a lot more game time and is impressing.

Wayne Rooney names his five favourite strikers to Inside United and ManUtd.com...

Duncan Ferguson: "He maybe wasn’t as natural a talent as some of the others in my list, but in terms of his desire to play and win, he was as good as anyone. He also scored a lot of important goals, and was my idol when I was growing up as an Everton fan."

Alan Shearer: "He's somebody I always looked up to when I was a young lad. I watched him play for Newcastle and England, and I loved the goals he scored. He scored all sorts of different goals, and was a big, strong player who made defenders' lives difficult."

Ronaldo: "It’s a big claim, but I think at his peak he was probably the best centre-forward ever. When he was at his best he was unstoppable, absolutely unplayable."

Thierry Henry: "He was incredible at Arsenal. The goals he scored, the skills he showed, the pace he had… he was amazing. He’s definitely one of the best players I’ve faced."

Gianfranco Zola: "He's not technically a striker, but I used to love watching Zola play. He had skills, pace; he could score and conjure up a bit of magic. He was great to watch."

Please Jesus let him be fit for anfield and city the following week. We re such a better team with him. He gives our defence a bit of confidence and he should provide de gea with better protection than Evans. With all defenders fit who would people here see as our best defence? I d love to see jones / vidic / smalling / a fully focused evra.
Jones physicality gets him the nod over rafael or fabio IMO

Smalling is still injured isn't he? Rafael is still injured and Fabio came off injured so dunno if he'll be fit.

So we're left with Jones, Vidic, Rio, Evans and Evra.
