Have the same card, haven't got around to the beta yet for various reasons. What CPU are you using and does your FPS stay above 30 mostly?

I just had a stonker of a round with tanks!

Me and a squad mate piled into a tank from the get go as Russians, pushed up to Antenna but flanked around through the middle rather then going through the deathtrap gap in the fence. Caught two abrams from behind and was able to quickly kill them before we were spotted. Teammate was gunning down infantry left right and centre. Capped E and then drove out in the middle overlooking D, teammate pettered long range suppression into D (checkpoint) while I waited for our 3rd squadmate (a sniper at antenna) to spot enemy tanks rolling out. Because the middle is a series of lightly slopping hills without a spotter the enemy tanks dont see me so I roll up the hill cutting in between the two of them (1 going to Antenna the other to checkpoint.) quickly flanked and killed the antenna one and chased down to one to D who tried using a smokescreen to get away as he drove up onto the highway, but well placed shot put him down.

We then rode in to help secure D which we capped without issue but I got stuck backing out and got C4'd pretty badly.

so my score was 9.1 and my teammate was 14.1 with a tonne of kill assists and cap points. needless to say big grin and a tonne of badges when the round ended.

Use the UK Killercreation servers, there is no lag on them at all.

There's plenty of 32 and 48 player servers too, no lag at all.

I actually had almost the exact same experience earlier today on a UK server, except I was the gunner on top and my squad mate was driving and repairing the tank while I covered. We were 14-0 and 16-0 before we got taken out right at the end of the round. Your soldier name isn't nite-something is it? Mostly rode around antenna and the huge field while firing into Checkpoint when needed, pretty much held two points all game.

No its DeKrieg and I finally got the hang of the jets and am quickly unlocking their upgrades (in 1500 points I will have heat sinking missiles and then! I will be OP)

I will insist if you have a wired 360 pad or similar to plug it in, BF3 detects it automatically and driving buggies and jets are so much easier with them then mouse + KB.

Though aiming with the jets is harder with the pad the ease that you can roll, control your speed and bank fast just makes it impossible to lose whoever your chasing. I actually just had a game where I survived almost the entire game in my first jet. The trick is to use altitude to your advantage as jets autorepair and any stinger or other heatseaker will put you at 54% if you go below 50% you become disabled and unlike tanks once you are disabled you seem to be pretty much f*cked. So if you hit 54% pull up and fly out of the combat area (jets have much wider range) and circle at a high height until you are repaired and then dive back in behind an enemy jet. Chances are higher that whoever targeted you was inf with stinger so they cant hit you after a certain height and if it was another jet and you can lose them then there is no way for infantry to spot you for him when you are that far away and high and they will most likely swing back to go for choppers.

The Chaf effect is so cool and some of my deaths have been my favourite moments, had one where I bailed out just before my jet blew up but the enemy was still on my tail so I got gunned down so the last sight I saw was my soldiers hand outstretched as he dies falling with my jet exploding taking up half of the screen. I regretted not hitting printscreen instantly.

Oh and I have hit the bloody antenna way too many times...

Did not know that about the W360 controller man...have one setting on my desk looking at me...SWEEET!

Yep the game looks very well at lower settings. No point running it on Ultra TBH. I dont...I run it on high all the time. I must use fraps to see what the 6990 runs at on the various settings.

One thing with the wireless controller is that you have to have it switched on before the game launches. It's the same with BC2. Most games just detect it when you switch it on. Its kinda annoying because it automatically turns itself off if you don't use it and since BF3.exe exits a lot...

I ended up remapping it with shoulder bumpers as rudder pedals, left stick for flight yoke and triggers as throttle. Weapons etc. assigned to the buttons.

Being pre-occupied with things outside gaming lately,
I actually didn't know the Beta was open to all since the 29th!

I assumed all along that it was exclusive to people with MoH and who pre-ordered the limited edition! D'OH!
And to think I could have been playing it the last week and a half.

Must get a few hours in before its too late! :P

Is it possible to copy an Origin game to another PC after downloading it?

In the process of doing a fresh install on my gaming PC, so I'm downloading it on a laptop now.

I know it can be done on steam alright, but can it be done with the BF3 Beta?

Would really appreciate it if someone could let me know.

    Thanks.

Okay, just spotted in the settings an option to keep the Game Installer after installation and have enabled it, and saw the download cache directory.

    Hopefully that will help.

People were torrenting it so I would imagine the answer is yes.

Apologies in advance if this is already been brought up/discussed, but there's 2k+ posts on this thread and I didn't fancy sifting through them all ha! :)

Has anyone played both the PS3 and PC Beta? If so, what are the main differences?

I used to be fairly big into PC gaming, but lack of spare time and money has turned me into a more casual console gamer. When I first saw BF3 was being released I immediately thought of putting together a new PC, but with funds an issue and it being released on PS3 I wasn't too disappointed.

However, I downloaded the beta for the PS3 last night and gave it bash.

First off, only Rush mode and one map on the PS3 beta? Is that the same for the PC beta?

Second off, my immediate reaction was .. The graphics just weren't that great! Okay, they're nice, but definitely not as nice as the trailers suggested, is the PS3 version set to a 'middle' graphic setting? I would've thought that a PS3 would give a decent set up a run for its money. I mean, the likes of COD look far more impressive (I know the gameplay aspect outweighs that, but I honestly thought BF3 looked far nicer in the trailers)

Thirdly, is it just me or is it very buggy? Artifacts ahoy, and quite a lot of slow rendering, certain textures not generating etc., etc.

So, basically, what I'm asking is.. Should there be a MASSIVE difference between PC and console versions? Whilst I know a really high spec machine will obviously run it better, I would've thought that a reasonably high spec machine would be on par with a PS3? Or have they 'dumbed down' the PS3 version?

No, a PS3 doesn't even compare to a low end PC. They simply don't have the DX11 hardware.

It's a beta, with a build going back to late July from the file datestamps.

I'm running the beta on an xbox and although I heard the graphics are worse on PS3 I didn't think they were as bad as your describing.

First the settings on xbox and PS3 should be equal to or below low on a PC set up.

Second on my xbox anyway I still think the graphics look good (BFBC2 like) and still waaaaay better than cod.

Third yes it is quite buggy across all platforms.

Aghh. :( So, would this MBP (+8GB DDR3 ram) run it better?

Gotcha. I figured as much, but was wondering because the launch date is so near...

    Nope, DX11 from day 1. It's DX9 that's gone.

None that I've ever seen. FB2 was DX11 focussed from the start. There's been a couple of other games, such as Crysis 2 that have done that recently though.

I see where I got the idea from now, http://www.anandtech.com/show/4221/nvidias-gtx-550-ti-coming-up-short-at-150/10

I didnt see the + after DX10 at the start there. :P

Seen this posted in the PS3 forum. Hopefully this will improve consoles performance.
An interesting nugget of news has come out of last night's Battlefield 3 preview event in San Francisco held by EA and DICE. While speaking with GamerZines, DICE's Patrick Liu revealed that the game would allow players to install content from one disc that would let the game stream higher resolution textures.

"There's a voluntary install on the 360," Liu said to GamerZines. "I think Rage did it as well, where you can install content to stream higher res textures. We're pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we're the best looking game."

IGN reached out to EA for a statement or confirmation on this additional feature, and they responded:

"Battlefield 3 for Xbox 360 ships on two disks with endless hours of spectacular high-definition gameplay; disk one features the stunning multiplayer, co-op levels and HD installation content, and disk two features the superb single-player campaign."

Additionally, we asked EA whether or not the game would offer the same feature for PS3 owners, and fortunately this seems to be the case. "The PS3 version requires the same install but it's all on the one blu-ray disk," a spokesperson for the company confirmed.

So, it appears that the game will offer support for HD installations across both platforms, resulting in better looking graphics in exchange for some HDD real estate.
