I left school in 1997 with a degree in Electrical Engineering* from Kevin Street DIT.
I worked in semiconductors for the next two years and was earning about the same as my peers (17-22K yearly salary in punts back then)
I've been in the states since then, working in a few different semiconductor companies.

If I was to come back to Ireland whats the median salary for someone with 15 years of experience in this field and an excellent CV/ references?

    thanks

*DIT couldn't give out degrees back then, they gave a "higher diploma" and Trinity accredited it as a B. Eng

It'd depend on what the 15 years experience is in, chip design, chip layout, fabrication, hardware design, embedded software etc etc, running a sucessful team doing all of th above??

ATE test development, predominately mixed signal, 0Hz to infinty, high speed serial stuff etc. (have my name on a few papers).
think : DSP converters, read channels, Serdes, GPHY, and RF (wfi, bt, cellular etc).
Got a few big volume parts in full production for large players.

You are quite limited by the lack of a big Market for those skills in Ireland. i.e only a small number of potential employers.

IMO you would be looking at around the ballpark of 60k.

i'm sorry to hijack this but i couldn't resist asking, do you've any idea how much the going rate is for a recent electrical/electronic PhD graduate? i also have a diploma and degree in electrical/electronic engineering but no industry experience.
    Thanks

in general find someone who graduated from your BEng the same year you did and who did not do a MSc/Phd.

What ever Salary they were on when the your completed your PhD is a good indication of what you will be on (maybe a bit more/less).

Don't think your PhD is going to give you a massive starting (or even finishing) salary.

    That sounds about right

I would add 10-15K on top if you got into a manager role.
