before any of this fancy karate or computers, now I'm probably showing my age here but back in the early 90s Jack Charlton was the manager of the Irish football team, us youngens painted the paths green white and orange, pints were flowing, punts were glowing, penny jellies cost a penny and 5 year olds could buy packets of smokes, well although the 'punt was the official currency, we'd say 'pounds' as in 'can I have 5 pounds?' - you'd probably not understand but it would be the equalant of asking you for €6.35.

So I hope you can see punts were actually called pounds so my joke would work!

without going into details it would be a unmitigated disaster to revert back to the punt UNLESS we are forced into it

going into the euro was a mistake for all concerned but leaving unless at the barrel of a gun is going to be a super mistake

dont know if your old enough to remember the currency markets nearly destroyed our currency on more than one occasion - devalued once to often

punt is so small its hard 2 defend it - and lets face it we would peg it along with sterling and watch this space - sterling is in for a bumpy ride real soon ( QE 2 on the way (( and no not the ship

stuck with euro until it fails , then we are ALL ****ed , not just Ireland
best if we sit tight on this one
