Banking in the North

Hi all I am going to do some work for a couple of months and wondering should i open an account in a bank in the north or should i not any advice would be grateful..

A bit more detail would be nice...

Will you be paid by cash/transfer Stg/eur?
Do you have a lot of bills in the south?
How long for?
