Out of curiousity, What makes vindictus stand out among the 100s of other MMOs that have appeared and failed throughout the years?

On topic, Is cherry the only one with the ability to fix the server?

ModDB, actually. Been following Vindictus for a while, gameplay from the vids appears sound, free open beta access, built on Source, can't really go wrong there lol.

As for how it differs from the rest... I don't know, that's why I'm playing the beta :pac:

Most likely will just swap over to GW2 when that arrives but you never know, this could be addicting.

Besides, Nexon made Maple Story which had quite a few players last time I checked. They might know something about keeping people interested.

Ok, opening mission over, first impressions.

Graphics are excellent, if a bit low poly, but that's to be expected for an MMO. All of Source's after effects are available.

It's a brawler, and character creation is strange. It seems you have to choose from pre-set characters and your play style is derived from them. You get to alter appearance, but not gender. So if you want dual wield, you're a guy, sword and shield is a girl. Hmm...

Best way I can describe it is Onimusha with online friends. No technique menus as far as I can see, just button combos. So far seems limited, but there may be stuff to unlock.

Something very unorthodox is the lack of health bars. I didn't see a single one although damage digits pop up for every hit. The boss battle was... uninspiring. I just smashed the left mouse button a few times, it got hit by a few scripted events (indirect ballista support) and it died. I 'may' have taken hits, but there was no knock down, stun effect or visible damage to my character, and no health bar to read so I really can't tell if it was even able to damage me...

Also one of Source's inherent problems reared it's ugly head. They added some code for cutscenes, but it seems it's just an overlay. You can still hear your character running around and stabbing things in the background.

Not exactly a grand opening it seems, though I remember the gameplay vids had more to offer than that...

Later bosses can two- or even one-shot you. Suffice to say the knockback/stun from those is plenty noticeable

Here are the details! Continuing from my previous post.

Note the coordinates in Exhibit A:

Now, Note the coordinates in Exhibit B:

You will notice a large difference, 33 Blocks to be exact(taking into account i am standing back 2 blocks in Exhibit B, And 1 block in Exhibit A)
Note: These figures may or may not be correct.

Now, You will also note in Exhibit A, That i was mining a specific block right before the server crashed, That was the exact position i was in(Or suspected i was in) during the downtime. How did i not only move the 33 block difference, But also mine the blocks inbetween during the downtime? I suspect explosives at the base of the towers were used.

Folks, We have a mystery on our hands! I recommend we get scooby and the gang on the case ASAP!

Check your y reference to make sure you didn't spawn a couple of blocks above you :P
