Dunnes Stores (Ilac Centre, Dublin) have a good stock of snow/ice cleats for shoes in if ye are expecting/dreading another harsh winter.

I found the exact product on eBay here, for roughly the same price in when you factor in shipping. eBay Link

Most snow/ice cleats were retailing about €25, but for €15 I'd give them a go.

there are alot of inferior quality ones out there, and the ones you saw probably are too.

    go for these ones instead

you'll be glad you paid the bit extra

Whats the difference other than the cost?

The P&P from the UK ebay is a complete rip off. The exact same pair from the USA trumps the lot (€13.30 all in)

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Non-Slip-Sole-Ice-Snow-Cleats-walking-Fishing-/330509385054?pt=US_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item7dbc1cb11b

This seller used to sell these in multiples and I bought four in one go and it worked out at €8 something including shipping.

I used these extensively last winter and they look as good as new still.

I agree. But if you're going to get yaktrax go for the pro model instead.

That I can't tell you. I bought mine early last year on eBay but I've seen them all over the place in bricks and mortar stores since the winter. The difference with the pro model is there's a foot strap that runs on top on your shoes and makes them far more secure. To be honest I think it's ridiculous calling it a pro version as it should really be the only model they sell.

Looking at the bad reviews of these devices in general that seems to be the main complaint is them coming off too easy. Perhaps thats the difference of someone walking to a bus, train, and those actually going for a walk.

Pavements were lethal last year though.

They work very well, even on sheet ice. It was fun walking along the ice and people thinking the ice was no trouble for them either, only to see them end up on their ass. :pac:

I even saw a couple out jogging in the snow wearing the same grips. For that kind of money you can't fault them.

I can vouch for the Yaktrak Walkers, there is also the Pro version which is the same as the Walker just with an extra instep strap. I saw them on Amazon.co.uk on sale for a tenner recently.

I've heard socks over shoes is very effective. Somebody told me that it is very common in Germany or Austria to do this in icy conditions.

Dunnes Stores (Ilac Centre, Dublin) have a good stock of snow/ice cleats for shoes in if ye are expecting/dreading another harsh winter.

The Dunnes version looks very flimsy for €15 and I could be wrong but I didn't notice a spare set of spikes either.

Doesn't work on a shiny floor. Maybe the ice sticks to the fabric though.

Yeah, I didn't do enough research on this, it was an impulse buy.
I was looking at the YakTrax Pro at €25 a while back, and thought these would do me. We may not get snow for another 20 years.

In hindsight, I do like the look of the GreatOutDoors Link that MikeSp posted for the same price and would trust a dedicated outdoor shop more.
Although the Dunnes one has 10 spikes and that one had 6, so I'd hope in a simplistic way that means more grip, but only a snow trial will tell.

Has to better than handing off the roof rails, trying to get into the car...

Though if you can't walk to the car, that's probably a hint not to drive...

I bought four pairs from http://www.scoutgear.com/ last Christmas. Half the price of getting them here, and they had them delivered quicker than a place in town could get them delivered from their main depot in Galway!

Discount code: 'yaktrax' still works and gets you 5% off.
