    Doesn't joined-up freckles = a tan?

It gets annoying after a while. :(
It just IS bloody annoying. Got even asked by the Aitricty guy a while ago - one of those who walk around trying to drag EBS customers to Airtricity - "Hi, very strange name... I don't wanna be nosey, but where are you from?"

"- I don't wanna be rude, but it's none of your business!"

    Morons.

For that to work, besides ignoring the grammatical error, I would need to be a shoe. C'mon, get up to speed or bail out now.

I am as pale as they come.

Even on the other side of the world, strangers come up to me and ask me if I'm Irish. :o

My town has a summer school for spanish kids, so naturally during the summer there'd be hordes of them wandering about the place.

For some reason myself and my twin were always being mistaken for being spanish (We're not even that tanned, the mistake was probably because we dressed rather crusty at the time)

There was one occasion while walking past a group of them that an irish group leader (or whatever) grabbed my brother, thinking he was sneaking off. He was not impressed :D

80% Irish (as in family history that can be pretty much traced back to Brian Boru times on my dads side and bar a few French on my mams side in more recent years she's pretty much Irish till about the 1850's) and I easily fit the description of pretty much anyone from any hot country- same goes for my dad and my grandad - both of whom are much darker skinned than I am.

I get told on an almost weekly basis to feck off back to my own country or else some foreigner is yapping at me in whatever language assuming I'm one of them. :p

Ah well - I have a year round tan and look half my age...it's totally worth the abuse!

Nah, I'm a pasty ginger so I'm the definition of Irish according to the Yanks, Can't go out to town without being asked to get in a photo

I'm ginger, too. But not only the Yanks think, that all the Irish are ginger, it seems to be a worldwide stereotype. Ginger+freckles=Irish

phil was actually born in England, although i'm sure he'd have never accepted being called anything other than Irish.

actually as far as I remember only the drummer was actually Irish from thin Lizzy.

    Eric Bell - Belfast
    Gary Moore - Belfast
    Vivian Campbell - Belfast
    Eric Wrixon - Belfast
    Ricky Warwick - Newtownards

Fair enough, but a few Northern Irish in there too - could claim Republic of Irish roots if they really wanted to!

I think Downey is the only one from the Republic (but am open to correction)

I'm tanned and fully Irish, but I am constantly being asked where I come from and always having it proven to me that Irish people are not tanned and thus I'm not Irish.
Is anyone else in the same boat as me?

    Was your postman tanned?
Sometimes the auld genetics throws up something different.

French and Spanish ancestry on my Mothers side so have the dark hair and skin. Rarely if ever get sunburnt which is a nice plus seeing as my Da goes bright red at the first hint of sunshine.

Being told to **** off home to Spain by some junky scrote recently wasn't nice though.

I used to hang out with a guy who had fairly tanned skin. He used to have a blast winding ladies up in the pubs and convincing them he was Spanish.
