Sky HD box - is viewing card needed?

My daughter was using an old Sky box and could get a lot of free channels which showed up as the UK epg. I bought her a Sky HD box but having set it up this evening (showing Irish EPG) a lot of the channels (Ch.4, 4E, ITV1, 2, 3 4 etc etc) cannot be viewed without a card.

Is a card required and if so what type?

well you can view all them channels like itv/c4/bbc ect with out the card
but not through the main menu of channels just go to other channels see if they are there if not here is the codes for getting them

I actually printed out the tuning details from here and tried about 4 or 5 and while I could store them in the "other channels" I still couldn't view them. Just kept getting the usual "please insert your viewing card" message.

If its any help this is a second hand box I bought. Its only been used a couple of time apparently and when booting up earlier it displayed the message - "initialising set up?" or something like that.

Sadly, sky have geolocked many of the skyHD boxes to the Irish EPG.
The only way of getting the UK epg back is with an FTV card.

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. Where to from here though, contact Sky or search Ebay.

I dont have any problem in using a N.I. address.

i think all you have to do is ring sky and ask for a freesat from sky card.

Be sure to hide your phone number if doing that.

I have no problem using a N.I address but did I read somewhere else that these cards should be for a specific region in the UK?

Just as an aside would an old UK card (not now in use) do the same thing bearing in mind that the HD box is displaying the Irish EPG?

I was delving through a few other threads and found this post part of which states
an ex subscription uk sky card

So if I picked up an ex sub. card from some friends in N.I would that work?

It should do unless it is a very old card.

Use BT1 1AA plus your address, its the Royal Mail sorting office in Belfast. Card will be re directed to your home address from there. Otherwise I am selling one here, works perfectly: http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150664574738&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Never miss an opportunity, eh? :D

Im grand for NI addresses. Im just waiting to get a bit of feedback from a couple of friends in the North to see if they have any cards lying around.

If all else fails I could be back to your ad...or just out of curiosity where about in Donegal are you?
