Do you have to change a timing chain in a 05 Ford Focus

hi,
I have a 05 ford focus 1.6 zetec petrol.
Does it have a timing belt? from my research online it appears that it does not have a belt but it has a timing chain and this does not need to be changed\replaced. Can anyone confirm this for me please?

The chain should be checked at i think around 120km, I could be wrong on the mileage but if it checks out ok then just get your mechanic to check it every time you get a service

I think the rule of thumb is to change it when its only giving trouble.

1.6 petrol has a timing BELT.which should be changed every 10 years or 80'000 miles.

Focus 1.8 petrol has a Timing Chain;)

It has a timing belt and should be changed every 160,000kms or 8 years.

I remember reading somewhere that Ford are unusual in that they'll cover the full cost of repairs if the belt fails prematurely - has anyone else heard this?

The 8year/160,000kms comes from Autodata online and their information comes directly from the manufacturers as per block exemption rules.

Granted the climate of high used-car prices, I think you got a reasonable price as it would be going for close to 6K at a franchised dealer. Hope you manage to get your car checked out properly. Even if you have no warranty, the dealer you bought it from should sort this out.

The Focus has a long life belt, its not the usual 80kilometeres or 5 years.

Ah feck we were told every 5 years or 120,000 kms so we got it changed June '10 when the car was 5 and half years old and had 113,000 kms! At least it wasn't overdue I suppose.

Edit....her's is the 1.4 petrol though so mabey its due sooner??

The Mk1 1.8 TDDI is 100k or 10years

Edit:

Just to add, the same PSA 1.6 Diesel engine that's also found in the S40 has a 240k.km/10 year belt change!

It's a chain, no it's a belt. It's 4 years, no 5 years, no 10 years. 50,000 miles not 80,000 miles, no 100,000 miles.
