A bullet to the head is a swift remedy alright.

It sounds like you need more than a pint to unwind =p

Well I probably would do if I really had that pint with cuddly old Martin.

I'd probably ask McGuinness about the human proxy bomb, particularly that used against a cook Patrick Gillespie whose family were taken by the IRA. Patrick was then told to drive a truck loaded with explosives to a checkpoint at Coshquin on the border where the bomb was remotely detonated killing him and five soldiers.

Or maybe about Le Mon bombing where twelve people were killed and 30 were severely injured when a petrol bomb mixed with sugar (designed so the petrol would stick to whatever it hit) exploded in a packed restaurant. See an image of one of the charred victims here

Or maybe about the countless people tortured under his command who had finger nails ripped out, boiling water/tar poured on them, etc before being dumped in some unmarked grave.

Yes that would be an interesting pint.
That's all in the past. However, David Norris sending a letter 16 years ago makes him a child rapist

The thread isn't about him though. It's about who you would like to have a pint with. Are you going to go on a rant every time you see his name mentioned between now and election day? You could save a lot of people the hassle of reading your monotonous raving by saying so right now, they can stick you on ignore for the duration and have done with it.

You should see the people I normally drink with.

McGuinness for a pint! we'd talk about many things including the brand of timer used in the Enniskillen bomb, then we'd chat about the ways he & his mates used to shoot off young fellas knee caps, I guess we wold also chat about the remaining disappeared and the possible financial reparations to IRA victims in wheelchairs, we could than talk about Ogla na hÉireann, and which one he supports ;)

Lovely pint indeed, although I would probably be suffering from bouts of depression & fits of extreme anger for several months after the encounter.

I have to agree with a lot of what you say and I only started this thread for a bit of light relief. Martin McGuinness and his ilk have a lot to answer for, as do many others, and as usual with these things it's the ordinary people who behave themselves and try and go about their lives in a civilised way that suffer.

    It's a no win situation.

If Martin McGuinness were to be elected President what message does that send out to CIRA and other extremist groups - kill enough innocent people and then negotiate a truce, join the establishment and get your nose in the trough. Where does that leave parties like the SDLP who have been well and truly hung out to dry by the British and Irish establishments.

On the other hand you cannot ignore how MMG, Gerry Adams etc. have brought the hard men onboard the 'Peace Process' at some considerable personal risk. We cannot be forever looking backwards and yet it is all too easy to tell people to move on, especially if like me you're lucky enough never to have known anybody killed or injured in the Troubles.

Although I could never vote for McGuinness I like to think he is a reasonably honest man but if today's glimpse when the veil dropped with his comment about 'West Brits' is anything to go by....

What is Ireland's legacy from Martin McGuinness and the IRA stemming from the Troubles? The one I see every week is the army still guarding the money shipments and I think it's indisputable that is a symptom of how 30+ years of subversion has brought us to the appalling state of lawlessness which now pervades the country.

Sorry for going so far off topic. I wonder what McGuinness would drink if was a drinker - surely Guinness or would that be showing West Brit leanings?

Oh yes, I'm sure you qould love me to shut up about Marty's previous life in the Provisional IRA, but I won't keep quiet, I refuse to let his grisly past go unchallenged in this forum, we are after all talking about the Presedency of Ireland, and if any of the candidates have questions to be asked, then ask & highlight we will . . . .

Yeah but this thread supposed to be a bit of craic with some jokes and that, there are other threads for pontificating about his past.

I never said you should shut up.. I just pointed out that this isn't the thread for it, as you are well aware. You already have a heap of posts in the thread about McGuinness and his bid to be president.. there's no need to cross post your opinions on every single thread which is slightly related to the election and/or candidates.

Probably Seán Gallagher. If I became a good friend of his I'd always have someone to turn to when I need money. :pac:

Wouldn't go near Mitchell because I find his views abhorrent. Higgins seems interesting but I reckon anything he'd talk about would go over my head. I don't particularly care about the Special Olympics tbh (it's nice that they're there but I don't pay attention to them) so I reckon Davis wouldn't be the best companion. And while I'm sure McGuinness is a decent enough fellow to talk to, I'd always be wondering if there's a sniper rifle pointing at me somewhere.

Where's the "Spike Dana's drink and leave her in a cage with a male Gorilla" option?

Take it down from the mast, Irish traitors,The flag we Republicans claim. It can never belong to Free Staters. You brought on it nothing but shame. Then leave it to those who are willingTo uphold it in war or in peace. The men who intend to do killing,Until England's tyranny cease. You've taken our brave Liam and Rory,You've murdered young Richard and Joe.Your hands with their blood are still gory,From fulfilling the work of the foe.For we stand with Enright and Larkin,With Daley and Sullivan bold. We'll break down the English connection,And bring back the nation you sold.Take it down from the mast, Irish traitors,The flag we Republicans claim. It can never belong to Free Staters,You brought on in nothing but shame.
