I don;t think people who would be into Big Brother would have the cerebral fortitude to watch a show like The Wire.

"What? I have to actually use my brain? And it's one story over 13 weeks? No way!"

"and theres over 100 characters, and you have to concentrate? theres no flashbacks? stuff that happens in season 1 is referenced in season 5? whhhat?"

    *turns on I'm A Celebrity*

"hurrr, lets watch washed up desperate "stars" eat insects for money instead!"

Idiocracy, its on the way folks.

I'd actually rather the Essex crowd than that twat Gervaise. Just can't abide the lucky, lucky fecker. I think Kylie wrote that song just for him. At least the women in TOWIE are easy on the eye, well most of them are, there's a few mingers. Anybody(not some dull cnut who eats branflakes for breakfast and drives a Yaris please) tell me what do these people do to earn a crust? Nice houses, nice cars, fine women, no work. Whats the deal? Rich Daddies?

Yeah you're right! 7 BAFTA awards, 2 Emmys, 3 Golden Globes, a Peabody Award among lots and lots of others for his writing, his directing, his acting.......

Writing, directing and starring in 2 of the highest rated and best reviewed comedies of the last 20 years. Selling out arenas everywhere in some of the fastest selling stand up shows of all time. Writing and acting in Hollywood movies........... it must all be sheer luck!

I suggested Boardwalk Empire to my Reality TV loving friend. She got 3 episodes in and said "It's too slow".

There's just no pleasing some people!

It's TV. Nothing much on TV rises above the level of mindless sh1t, thats the idea, you watch it to be distracted. Any of the women I know who watch BB, the X factor or towie, are all pretty intelligent(and I mean pretty and intelligent:D), but they seem to love peeking into other ways of life. Maybe thats the attraction, it's not too removed from everyday life, so people can relate to it. The Wire is just for wannabe gangbangers imo.

thats why I loved it, its about characters and its a slow builder. Harrow is one of my favourite tv characters at the moment along with Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister from Game Of Thrones (got into that late, I hate watching stuff 1 episode a week I prefer to watch it all at my own pace, which in GoT's case was 3 episodes a night lol )

That is one of the main reasons i'm excited for the new series, the development of the Harrow character. Lots of potential for back story and he's creepy as hell.

Also, Michael Shannon is an absolute powerhouse!

have you even watched it? a 5 season show dealing with drug trafficking, trade unions, political corruption, the beauracracy of a failing school system and the print media with over 100 fleshed out characters who all have their own story arcs and is one of the most respected and celebrated shows in tv history is for "wannabe gangbangers"?

Shannon is the best thing in it, and he's playing General Zod in the new Superman movie, can't wait to see what he does with the role.

I think reality TV is David Attenborough with people instead of animals. Like a portal into another species. Personally, I loved the Sopranos, was hooked to it totally, but I also am starting to get why the women love the reality stuff. Also, if I watch it, I have somthing to talk to them about, other than Pawn stars and Deadliest catch.

there is a place for reality tv, but stuff like Essex and Jersey Shore and *shudder* The Hills isnt reality tv, is pseudo reality scripted within an inch of its life. like The Hills, you have two characters calling each other in a "reality" situation where there happens to be a camera crew on each end of the phone recording both their pov's with perfect sound? thats not reality tv!

I cannot comprehend a person who loved The Sopranos, which I absolutely love, would now be hooked on reality tv....come back from the dark side.

Honestly Krudler, no, no I havn't. So maybe I should have picked somthing else to mention.:) Maybe it's great, maybe it's star trek with gangbangers. Frankly, I don't get the remote too often, so I end up watching what the women like, which is usually reality stuff or, and it seems to be an addiction of theirs=-"Medium". I will try to get in a bit of "the wire", just to please you.:)

Star Trek? Are we talking about the same show?

anyway, if you liked The Sopranos you'll love The Wire. I must say, I prefered The Wire to The Sopranos!

Ha! No, I'm not on the dark side, I just have some strong minded women around me who get snotty when I don't agree with their choice of TV. I'd probably love the wire, I do love discovery channel, but I'd get fecked out of it if I tried putting them on. I'm just biding my time till my boys get old enough to back me up!
