Low signal power on some channels

    Hi, help required please.
    Since the strong winds we had here in Mayo a week or so ago, I'm losing the signal on some of the channels, the 3 CBS ones for example.
    On those the power is down to the high 20's but on English channels it's still around 68%. I don't have sky just free to air and all the equipment is only a few months old. Is it just likely to be that the dish has moved?.

    Sounds like the wind has moved your dish a little bit, either the whole dish, or the LNB skew. The 3 CBS channels are typically a bit weaker, as they are on lower powered transponders located on a satellite (Eurobird) 0.3 degrees (approx) from the other satellites/transponders (Astra 2) beaming down the BBC channels (28.5E v's 28.2E).

    If the dish is accessible, you can test to see if you can improve the signal by moving the dish (without loosening screws) left and right, up and down, whilst viewing the TV with your signal displayed, to see what needs to be done to get all channels above 60-70%. You may need another pair of eyes to help with this.

    Getting the same thing happening on our free to air Sky digibox too here in Wexford. All other channels seem ok.

    Thanks tmcw, that's what I thought it might be but certainly didn't know any of the technical bits you mention. Must get my son-in-law to go up a ladder, he's a bit fitter than me.:)

    Hi kmurph, looks as though we've all suffered with excess wind recently.:D
