I can understand the sentiment. I wouldn't do it, but when he explained the emotional motivation behind it (wanting to have his son with him and in him and all that), it sorta made sense to me. I don't have any issue with it. It's not like he feasted on his son for the gratification of it. I'm sure there are plenty of cultures elsewhere outside the Western World that do similar things.

I feel the same. I don't know what it's like to lose an 18-year-old son and to be honest I thought he was going to say he took the leg bone home :(

You could see how totally emotional he was about it and couldn't help himself welling up and knowing everyone was watching him.

I dunno, seems decent enough to me. The only thing that got me was the 'no word of a lie' 'may God strike me down' 'I'm telling you this on my own life,' etc etc. Take all those out and the interview would have lasted 5 mins.

I liked when he swore when talking about his son's death and then apologised and The Tubbs said don't worry, it's OK. Thought that came across as really nice :o

In saying all that, can you imagine what the doctor that pulled him off his son must have thought... imagine going home and saying 'You'll never believe what I saw in work today...'

To eat pieces of his dead sons still warm flesh is part of his culture and to criticise him would be to discriminate and we just cant do that can we?

Do Pavee Point have a policy on Cannibalism?

Native Americans did that too as do many indigenous people around the globe. Papua New Guinea has tribes that still do it. Widely practised believe it or not? It's not for me but it ain't me eh!

He is a father that lost a young son and is still heart broken! He is with out a doubt a good loyal man.

Didn't know that, cheers, but I do understand the reasoning of wanting to mix the blood.

Yea even as kids, "Blood Brothers" and all that. I think some people are so far gone re urbanisation, detachment from the land and the very real primal nature of man.

The people knocking him the most are probably doing so from their semi-d house in the burbs with their boring controlled lives. He has probably done more living then most of them. He has stayed with his wife through thick an thin too. Loyalty No.1!

    :)

I'd say he's lived alright. The more I think about it, the more I like him. He was so honest about what he had done. He didn't have to say it, but he is obviously not ashamed or gives a fcuk what anyone thinks.

And yes, his admiration and dedication to his wife is really heartwarming.

Uhhhmmm.. I think I'd need a bit more than a 10 minute appearance on TLLS to form an opinion, wouldn't you think?

    Good for you.

Oh, and the video was longer than 10mins, just correcting you there.

    Go look for yourself.

No need to roll the eyes like a big baby. The guy came across well in the interview and appeared a decent guy. His first impression was good. Of course we can't know everything about him, but he came across as a genuine and likeable chap.

Of course others will feel differently, but that is my take on it.

That's all fine and kosher pal, but most sensible people would not make a judgement on the basis of a 15 minute TV interview.

You gotta look beneath the hype buddy, don't be so easily sucked in.

A likeable character for sure. On the blood drinking issue, his eldest son was after passing. A son by his accounts who was his pride and joy, now dead in front of him. The man is obviously in a state of shock and panic, not thinking right. He did what he thought would preserve his son at that very moment. Wouldn't judge him for it and I doubt the media will either.

oooh, get that little dig in there why don't you :D:D

Like most people, I've seen plenty of interviews in my time where people have come across as ignorant, thick, rude, etc.

This guy didn't. He came across as likeable and genuine.

This is my initial impression of him. Most people - even the not-so-bright ones - would know we can't ever truly know someone we haven't met, but we can form an initial opinion and I thought, given the length of the video, most people would know that is what people were basing their summations on.

Glad you qualified your previous posts man.

I found my initial impression was favourable too, seemed a good guy, but I'd need a lot more info before I'd go on the 'hinternet' extolling his virtues.

A lot of naive people around these days, that's where 'spin' and PR,and most of all vested interest, can get you.!

    M'kay:cool:

    Why the digs?

    Real grown up people?

Real grown up people understand we all have different opinions that we are entitled to.

Like I said he was funny likeable on the TV but people don't walk up to your front door and shoot you in the head for no reason.
He has a reputation for a reason.

Don't know what angle you are coming from poster.

    Maybe you can explain.?

My point is that I don't judge people on the basis of a 15 min TV interview.

I'm way too experienced for that:cool:

Where are you coming for, my friend

I just find all these 'a sensible person' and 'real grown up' people guff really patronising.

OK, you don't judge a guy after one interview, but people are entitled to form an 'initial opinion' and if it is not what you agree with, then let it go, no need for the digs.

What did Paddy do for a living before coming a fully fledged 'English' celebrity? I know nothing about the man other than he looks like he can take care of himself and (cannibalism aside) he seems to have a lot of charisma.

Maybe so poster, but when all is said and done, the points are correct.

A lot of posters on this thread were judging Mr. Doherty on the basis of a 15 min , probably promotional, interview on the LLS.

Like, that's why people go on TLLS.

Of course you are entitled to be sucked in by the vested interests and the self interest, but for fock's sake don't be swayed by the PR stuff and deify the lad.!!

Look behind the scenes my friend, you will always find a vested interest.

PD will get a series on some TV channel in the UK for those who look up to that kind of person.Think Jade Goody.

    Mark my words.

    Just don't be so naive;)

Paddy was a very successful bare knuckle fighter within the Travelling Community, I believe that he was never defeated. Bare Knuckle Fighting is a massive business so he made a lot of money from that.

I have serious respect for the man, I enjoyed the interview last night, it was refreshing to see someone who is so brutally honest.

You really don't need to keep explaining your point. As I said, I am not naive and got the point you were making a good while back when you first made it.

    Over and out :)
