I've just come to the realisation that I dont enjoy the company of most of my family. We're just not compatable as people. I'd do anything for them but **** me they're like aliens. So are the rest of you close with your family.

Ha, good time this thread came up in...

Family - say Family ma, da, etc... I never had a real family as me da died when I was a kid and mother was not 100% capable of looking after me. I used to be bounced back and forth and been raised on the street among the scum. Sure that wasn't a bad thing as I can now look after myself well.

My OH and my son who's now 12.... I think even tho we fight sometimes they are all I have and they are most precious thing in my life I wouldn't hesitate to kill for. I know I've fooked up many times, so did she but looking at all that I think I get on well with people I love, I dont give a damn whether you call them family or whatever.. I have 2 people I love and thats enough for me, couldn't care bout all the aunties, etc. They're no use and only looking for money.

Excuse me, I have a bit of Captain in me  BUt I'm honest at least :)

Families are easy to love but can be hard to like

But I acutally really like mine, as I have matured, which showed me that, in my case anyway, I was only a moody little wanker if I had problems with them

When I met my wife about 10 years ago, I mentioned that my family were a bit 'all over the place'. Every family is was her response. 10 yrs later - she agrees that I have a fúcked up family.
Families - the great conundrum - some fight all the time, some don't fight at all - but most will come together for grief or sickness - no explaining family.

"you can pick your friends, but you're stuck with your family". Get on well enough with mine mostly, but they all have their cnutish moments.

Just as an addition to my previous post: if someone hurted my family in any way I wouldn't give up until I blew their head off. Honestly I couldn't care about the Guards, jail, etc. - you ruin my house and family - you are a dead man, dead fukin man in the middle of O'Connell Street if it has to be that way. Nothing would stop me.

It's nice that your loyalty to your family is more important than any small matters like right, wrong, legality and consequences.

Is that a question. Ever heard of question marks. They are used to close off questions? Don't you find this painful to read. :p

To answer the question: there's a difference between biological relatives and "family". I have some of the former, but they aren't my friends and ceased to be "family" many years ago. Sharing genes with you does not give someone a right to be a dick or dickette to you.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Really? You need question marks to identify a question? What happens when someone is conversing with you? Do they use sign language to signify that they're asking you a question?

I believe the old adage blood is thicker than water, my family has went through a lot of **** but I wouldnt exchange them for the world

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,864 ✭✭✭pappyodaniel

I'm 30 and still get a bit angsty with my parents. :o

Our family aren't particularly close but since my sisters recently had babies it has really brought us closer again which is nice but also serves as a reminder as to why we aren't close.

About an hour in the company of my family is all I can muster before I make my excuses and leave.

Captain morgan aside, I get what your saying, throw your arms around your girl and baby, invest your time and emotions in them not your past. Im sorry you had it hard it can make you or break you, its really up to you.
