Had my interview this morning, have to say that Eircom must be a lovely place to work because the people I've been in contact with have been getting nicer as the process has been going on. My interview lasted 45 minutes, a bit of general chat, went through my application form, a few questions like the phone interview ones and that was about it. I think it went well but you never can tell, especially now that it's been cut to the last 150 or so people. Best of luck to all who have yet to hear back and who have to do the interview yet, relax and be yourself, they're nice people. The waiting game begins again for me now, they reckon it will be 3 weeks before I hear. They were interviewing two others at the same time as me in other rooms and the interviews were on last week and will be on this week and next too.

no he just said that the competition was fierce and unfortunately i wouldn't be asked to the next stage i didn't ask why .. No point beating myself up about what i could have done differently

Had my interview yesterday, lasted over an hour!! I think it went pretty well but for anyone who thinks its gonna be a walk in the park, its certainly not!! It was really tough going at times, the pressure was unreal.. But the interviewers were nice people and fair too! Be prepared guys! Good luck!

tough going in what respect? the questions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Geralt

I dont think it was tough going, unless you do not have any work experience. The question were about your previous experiences in working as a part of a team or how did you deal in difficult situation. Usual interview stuff, nothing out of the ordinary (definetaly not bone breaking like in "The apprentice" interviews).

i'm the same as geralt, i thought it was ok, its not as if they were trying to catch you out on anything, more of a chat than an interrogation,

although saying that maybe they didn't think i did ok so all i can do is wait another week or two to find out how i really did

I was quized on technical things and my use of technology.. i was able to answer everthing quite well, i think, but it did throw me a bit.. i have loads of work experience so im sure that wasnt the reason.. maybe it was just me.. im used to doin interviews but that was definietly one of the toughest!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Geralt

what kind of technical things if you dont mind me asking?

but maybe it is dependant with who you had the interview

I was only asked about my understanding of the apprentice programme and how it would work. Also some questions about Eircom, but nothing that wasn't answered on their website, so I had fairly good knowledge of it from doing a bit of research. I was asked how good I was with technology but as they said themselves, they take it for granted that people these days know the basics at least. Apart from that it was all on my previous employment history and the rest of the questions were situation based..... "Describe a time when....." type thing. All based on customer service and team work.

Oh and also, something that caught me slightly off guard, they spent a few minutes at the end asking about what other jobs I had applied to, if I intended on taking any courses and what my dream job would be. I suppose they want to make sure you're not going to leave the programme in a few months or after a couple of years even, to pursue something else. But don't bother trying to suck up and say that this is the only thing you've applied to, they will keep asking until you give them something. Like I told them, I have lots of ideas of things I want to do, but have made no plans to do any of them and have no intention to unless I'm not successful here and they seemed happy with that.

I have no technicial or engineering experience at all, but i do know the basics! without getting into too much detail, they asked about things like wiring and the inside of appliances and if i knew anything about them, like what experience had i got with working with them (which i had none!).. it wasnt like they were taking off marks because i didnt know some of it but it did put me under quite a bit of pressure as i wasn't expecting it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭evosteo

i was getting the feeling that they were hinting that i was "over qualified" and may be bored doing the job, and they were kind of questioning if id be commited to the job if i got it,

    worrying:(

all in all the interview was grand, exactly what everybody here has been saying, lovely people to talk to, jus run through your initial application to get to know who you are, then some situational questions and really a general conversation. 45mins in all

keep the chin up man, you`ll get something, only a matter of when

jus to let people know, dunno if the interviewer let it slip by accident, they are only taking a first batch of 25 people about the end of oct and the rest will be in a period after that, they will not be taking 50-75 people on all at once, think it may be 25 end of oct, 25 jan then 20-25 mar,

as always im open to correction

Only after getting the call to do the assestment in Citywest today, its on Tuesday morning, Id say it was July nearly when I did the phone interview, had forgotten about it completely, cant believe is dragging on this long, I met the orignal deadline they set and all, yet only doing this now, madness!

Not that im complaining now :D Just find it a tad odd

That's mad that they are still doing assesments when a lot of people have already done final interviews and will know in 3 weeks
