will hdmi cable improve picture quality even if you dont have hd channels

As the title suggests, i have a full hd tv, i have digital sky box. im wondering if i use a hdmi cable instead of a scart, will that alone improve the picture quality on the tv alone?
just something im wondering....

I'm assuming you have a Sky Hd box, to connect your Hdmi lead to. It will improve all your stations and you'll be able to view BBC HD, in all its high definition glory!

Dunno if this is in the right forum but anyhoo. My sky HD box's SD channels are not as good via HDMI as my old box used to be via scart, my 2ps worth.

Doctors differ, and patients die...

@OP A HDMI lead is only a couple of Euro. If it doesn't give an improvement, and it should, you've lost little by trying it out.

The Upc hd box upscales the SD channel. I imagine the sky does to. So.it should be better

It does upscale the SD, but the motion blur on my TV and haloing around people is much worse, maybe clearer but less watchable. The actual HD channels are much better though.

HDMI should also be less susceptible to noise/interference (unless you have real high quality well screened scart leads). As a previous poster says - you can try it for quite cheap to see if it is better. But don't spend more than a tenner !

I don't know why you have these issues. I get no motion blur, or 'haloing' around people. The picture quality on RTE, and other channels with a reasonable transmission bandwidth, is far better than with Scart. This is to be expected as the signal to the Tv remains digital, rather than having a digital to analogue to digital conversion in the chain.

I think what your trying to say is HDMI cable brings in a digital signal to TV and then the TV converts
that signal to analogue so you can watch it, a scart brings an analogue signal from the digital box because the digital box already converted the digital signal to analogue and that's why a scart is prone to interference, where as a HDMI lead is not prone to interference as it's digital.

I stand corrected on this, but I was meant to believe that everything we see on TV whether it's from a digibox or Blu Ray is analogue, same thing with sound everything is converted to analogue so we can hear it.

The upscaled SD from my Sagem FreesatHD box is virtually indistinguishable from HD channels. Makes Saorview SD look terrible in comparison.
