Can some-one advise how to get the network working please. I get a message "STB successfully got an IP" but I don't see the Ariva on the network. Is there another step or two involved? Have read the manual but it's not very enlightening.

    Is it possible to...
    1) play files stored on a pc on the LAN?
    2) copy files from the Ariva attached hard drive to the pc?
    3) access things like the RTE iPlayer, YouTube, etc?

What would it be like to daisy-chain 2 of these boxes using lnb out and terrestrial out for the second box?
Would it work ok for a second room and what would be the major limitations?

For the sat part, you should get a twin or quad lnb and take a second cable direct from this to the second box.

Yep sure thanks for that but would it work to use the lnb out to another box, at a minimum I presume you could watch the same channel on both boxes?

In theory you could watch the same polarity and band that the first receiver is using but seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to for limited viewing options.

You may be able to access a very restricted range of channels but I don't know if anyone has tried it with this box.

Thanks guys, just good to know it is a possibility even if not advised.

As far as I an tell the answer to the three questions is 'No' .... of course the USB HDD can easily be plugged into a PC to transfer files.

I would be delighted to find out otherwise.

If you have a HDD plugged in you can use the ethernet connection to play radio stations from the internet .... provided of course the LAN has internet access.

It may be possible to play streams from the LAN .... I was looking at this some time ago but did not get it fully functional.

If anyone has had success I look forward to hearing about it.

    regards

I would think the problem with the playback is that you're using a USB stick instead of a powered drive, as recommended by Ferguson. Looking at previous posts it seems people are able to use USB sticks, but I would guess that HD is showing their limits when used with the 120 box. Verbatim, WD, Iomega etc. all sell powered hard disc drives under 750Gb (as per Ferguson instructions. Do folks read these?). I don't think the format of the recording would be an issue for the TV, as I presume you're playing it back through the 120 box? (I don't think TVs have USB ports, do they? Mmm...)

I have used an Iomega HD 500 g external drive but still doesn't play in 2nd. TV.
I have since discovered that recording an SD channel won't play either. I'm playing back through a USB port. No problem with Sat. channels except in HD.
Has anyone recorded from DTT SD and played back in different TV o.k? Am I missing a setting? Thanks for reply.

The problem is not the usb stick, it's that the other tv cannot play the file format that the Ariva uses. As others have said, you will need software like format factory to convert to a format your other tv can read.

The dtt problem is certainly unusual - you do realise that rte1 + 1 only broadcasts after 7pm, and even then not all programmes?

I have tried converting with Format Factory, no joy. I have converted to MKV,
MPG. What format should I use. do you know?

Hello everybody, I just have a quick question as I am unsure what to do to get the UK free channels.

I have two Ferguson boxes connected to the same LNB (A twin one), in the first box everything is ok, I can get all the UK free channels, in the second box I have a weak signal for astra2 but I can get some channels on it such as Aljazeera sport, eurosport HD, ESPN america, polsat futbol, Jordan TV:confused:.....I believe that I did a mistake while trying to find the channels.

I just went to the menu, satellite finder, selected both Hotbird ( because I have another dish ) and Astra 28.2 and then performed a scan.

Just for some extra information, I get a good signal for Astra 1 (19.2E) and Astra 2C and Astra 3A.

Any Idea what is wrong here please? thanks a lot in advance guys.

I would like to upgrade to the latest Firmware (2.15b5) can somebody please give me a blow by blow account of how to do this . . . . . .

I presume you Download from either the Ferguson site, or Tony's site, then you save to USB, then unzip the folder?, and then insert USB into Ariva 120 and select Allcode-Dump-thingy ??? :(

    HELP needed please.

You must have two lnb's on the dish, its simply not possible to receive the channels you have listed from Astra 2. You need one lnb with two outputs.

It might be best to start another thread as this is not specificially related to the 120 combo

The channels you have scanned are all from Hotbird not Astra 28deg. In menu select 28deg using left right arrow and then go to single satellite scan and do blind scan.

It's possible your TV is not recognising the HD or is not powerful enough to run the HD, the USB port may be faulty. Try connecting the HD and power cycling the TV to force it to look for the HD.
I have successfully used the USB port on my TV to view MPG files from a an HDD.

MKV is a bad choice as most hardware decoders don't support it for whatever reason. An AVI container with Xvid in it should be supported by most things.

Like someone metioned already, your TV must simply not support, whatever format the Ferguson used to record your dtt SD content. This isn't a Ferguson combo issue.

It might help though if you provide the make/model number of this tv of yours :P

O.K. Thanks. Sony Bravia 40EX401 HD with USB input. Sony Bravia 40V3000 no usb. Won't play recordings from DTT or Sat HD channels. No problem with Sat. SD. Tried hooking up Iomega Screenplay HD 500 gb. external drive but no joy. Would really like to sort this out. I agree the Ariva is not the problem. When I connect it to both TV's it works fine. Thanks for your time.

What are you using to play it on the 40V3000, the Screenplay? Does the file work on a computer? You might want to start another thread. I don't think your issue has any relevance here.

Didn't somebody already answer this? If doesn't do any of the things you want yet. Networking seems to be almost purely for cccam. I think there's an RSS reader tool too.

Perhaps a separate thread might be the way to go with this as its not an Ariva issue.

Screenplay with USB stick. Probably right about last part of your reply.

I'll try my best before opening a new thread.
what is he best way to delete the channels from one satellite in one go please?
I found the option of deleting 1 channel at a time or to delete all channels in the box but I didn't find the option of deleting channels from only one satellite.

    Any ideas guys?
