Books for college, in my B.Eng course we had physics and maths for the first two years. I went out and bought the textbooks only to have the lecturers give us notes to take down from the whiteboard which were all we needed. Even worse, I bought a circuits & systems book at the end of first year and it turned out it was only needed for one subject which was a first year subject. I had hoped to use it later to brush up on my electronics but didn't get round to it.

I have a UML book which got slightly more use

Don't believe the hype...there's only so much candy floss a person can eat before they starting puking bright pink. Just sayin'

A fat-free cookbook, flicked through it once, cooked from it never.

Being Irish anything cooked without real dairy country salted irish butter is just plain rank & tasteless!

Actually I've just thought of other useless things.

Fancy toys for infants (and some of the toddlers toys too). Companies and shops try to sell complecated toys with bells and whistles designed to "stimulate your baby and help them develop".

Its a scam and is aimed at parents, my children barely gave them attention and when they did they certainly didn't use them as the companies suggest they will. Even now my toddler won't use a lot of toys as the makers intended. Kids of all ages want grown up looking toys, something soft (teddybears etc) or something that can take being thrown/bounced/chewed.
