Why no morning talk in Dublin?

Does anyone know why Dublin stations avoid doing a morning talk show?

Most stations around the country have the 9 to 12 slot for news and current affairs and local issues.

But not in Dublin...has that always been the case? And why?

But it's the type of inane talking that would drive you to porter. What's your favourite type of breakfast cereal, why is belly button fluff always blue, what is this "zany" sound? With lots of "hilarious banter" with sidekick Steve, and a chat with the newscaster at the end of the news.

I do recall one or two stations trying a morning talk show (Country?Q102?) but morning talk shows on independent stations have always flopped.

One reason is that RTE & Newstalk have the stories that are relevant already covered, where as the 'beyond the pale' stations can actually offer something truly local and unique.

A second reason is that the Dublin audience prefer music in the morning - a trend dating back to the super pirate days.

For the independents it ultimately comes down to the fact that music in the morning will give them a bigger audience. (& lets be honest,if there was no 20% obligation, no Dublin station would carry talk shows)

count your blessings in cork its all talk before midday apart from 4 fm its good to hear some tunes in the morning besides all the doom and gloom talk first thing

Probably because most of Dublin likely views the national stations as their own local stations (as witnessed by the many ads that refuse to say "01" or "Dublin") and so they probably think that the likes of RTE and NewsTalk cover that audience.
