My mate said something to me today about some new digital satilite system that uses a small square shaped reciever on the outside of the house and doesnt have the big conventional dish fitted to the house??

He rekons he going to get this system,as hes not a fan of a big dish hanging off the side of a house.

Does such a system exist,or he is imagining things???

    Thanks.:)

Small square boxed dishes have been used for years in London and parts of Continental Europe. They are not big enough for Sky or Freesat in Ireland. No other satellite service in Ireland will have the UK main channels.

He might be talking of Real Digital.

That will not work with any different a dish than Sky Digital or Freesat in Ireland.

If it even launches. it's only likely to have maybe 1 channel not already on Satellite.

Speaking to one of the lads in Armstrong Electronics and they said it will work no bother on SKY ,

Think it was 95ex for the Quad LNB version.

Maybe in Waterford or Dublin. But forget it more west or in heavy rain. Those are not good enough for most of Ireland and inferior to a decent 65cm dish.

Nothing new. Saw units just like that 3 or 4 years ago.

Yes, he is talking about the selfsat. Think they (or ones like them) have been out for a few years. I have one in my apartment brought from my last place that didn't like satellites installed. Works very well but are fairly pricey.

    Hi,

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that this square dish is going to be used to pick up the Sat at 9 Degreess (sorry I dont know the name) but its the one that is beaming RTE, (saorsat)

    Regards

When it comes to satellite tv, a lot of peoples' definition of 'works fine' seems to involve accepting that reception will disappear in every significant rain shower.
