Yes, I have come to exactly the same conclusiuon as you, so the TS function is now off, and although I like the idea of the Pause feature I don't want my HDD running all the time. On another point, have you also got the Transponder/Channel selection problem I speak of?

    Don't appear to have.

It is a while since I recorded something from the SAT while wishing to watch another SAT station.

So I just recorded CBS Action and used the channel up % down (+,-) buttons and could only get another couple of channels along with the DTT channels.

That seems like expected behaviour .... so I don't have the problem it seems.

    regards.

Quite possibly , there may be some setting you can change in the tv set up that may cure the problem

Well I called the Tech support, I have been told to use an optical cable and that will resolve the issue, I hope it will work. Thanks for everything Tony ;).

Could someone help me here? When I record to a USB memory stick from the Ariva 120 from a HD channel it will not play back in a different HD TV. Won't even play in the HD TV that I recorded from. No problem with SD.
Also, I have to retune DTT channels every night because RTE One+1 is missing the night after I retune, if you follow me!

You need to change the file format to one that will play on your TV.
STB recommended an excellent free app to do this, check it out here.

You'll need the experts to answer that, I'm just passing on the solution I was given.

I would think the problem with the playback is that you're using a USB stick instead of a powered drive, as recommended by Ferguson. Looking at previous posts it seems people are able to use USB sticks, but I would guess that HD is showing their limits when used with the 120 box. Verbatim, WD, Iomega etc. all sell powered hard disc drives under 750Gb (as per Ferguson instructions. Do folks read these?). I don't think the format of the recording would be an issue for the TV, as I presume you're playing it back through the 120 box? (I don't think TVs have USB ports, do they? Mmm...)

My TV has USB ports and I use a USB drive to watch recorded HD content, I also use a USB powered portable hard drive. Like everything else I suppose, it depends on the quality of the product.

Thanks for that info. My Sony TV has a USB port.

The Ariva is very capable of powering a flash stick, so they present no problem provided they are fast enough.

I searched the manual for the 750GB limit that you mention and couldn't find it. What page is it on?

The problem is not the usb stick, it's that the other tv cannot play the file format that the Ariva uses. As others have said, you will need software like format factory to convert to a format your other tv can read.

The dtt problem is certainly unusual - you do realise that rte1 + 1 only broadcasts after 7pm, and even then not all programmes?

I've also seen RTE1+1 playing with sound and no picture.

My box was also glitching on RTE2 during the match. Every minute or so it showed a picture from about 20 seconds before for about a second. Power cycling fixed it.

Did you just unplug it for a minute or two and did you dissconnect any cables!

Yeah, used the switch, only for a few seconds and didn't disconnect any cables.

Can some-one please post a link to the latest firmware update and channel list for the Dublin area. Thanks. I have tried searching the thread but the link I found goes to a dead file.

Maybe this could be put in a sticky mods?

On a recording issue, I now have a WD Passport Essential 1tb HDD which seems to work fine, it even records in HD which is good to know. Officially the largest drive recommended for HD recording on the Ariva 120 is 750 Gigs, but I think we can safely say the WD 1tb also works.

PS, I moved my USB port round the back last night, it took about two hours to complete because I went to great lengths to make it look professional (not that anybody will see it), but the USB port is now flush with the back panel thanks to various nuts, bolts, & bits of plastic (screws & threaded inserts from a spare electric wall socket) :)

Its now situated where the RS232 port was located, that'll stop my toddler from pulling out the USB lead . . . . .

    Hi Tony,

Is this a patched version? It has all the channels from Astra/Eurobird and DTT? I've been searching for the channels so far, which is a mess to be honest.

    Thanks,
    Zab.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,931 ✭✭✭Zab

Stick onto the root of a USB stick using your computer, then stick it into your 120 Combo and choose Upgrade from USB from the menus.

Not for dummy's but for reasonably intelligent people :)

So after 118 pages of what seems to be problems, Can anyone confirm if this is a bargain or not?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,069 ✭✭✭✭LordSutch

Yes it is a bargain, but it has glitches . . . .

Will near perfection in the coming months as Firmware updates are released.

So after 118 pages of what seems to be problems,

Thats inaccurate, there were problems like lip sync that have been resolved and what remains are some minor issues . If you want to see what users think take a look here http://www.soapbox-reviews.net/cgi-bin/iwsoapbox.dll/EXEC/0/1oece861r73kob16sap5r115u9mz
