Out of interest, has anyone in this thread complained about the ad? I haven't. Hunky Dory seem desperate to get back into the public eye, even going so far as to place articles within the 'independent' media to say that people have being making complaints.

Topless 100% yes. I can't say for sure if there were cocks and fannies on display, it was a long time ago, but I think there were.

Strange the ones with looks and intellect generally use their intellect to get by.

I am not saying they are mutually exclusive. I am saying the video on that site portrays women as air-heads and being an air-head isn't a problem when you look good. These women knew that when taking part but thought the money was worth it

surely if you are a good looking smart woman and you get offered a load of easy money for standing around in a bikini you would do it no? if the roles where reversed id sure as hell do it

    Yeah,

There's no difference in coke and pepsi = there's no difference between coke and pepsi.

    No?

Topless is not naked. Topless is normal - sure you'd see Irish wimmin doing that all the time on holiday

    No?
I don't think so. Maybe that's just me. I agree with what you meant

So what you think an underhanded dig would work if you were a woman ? you are somehow superior is that it ?

you were implying I was jealous of other women because I object to the ad. so yeah the dig doesn't work:rolleyes:
I don't think they look like airheads. I think they are doing a good job of acting the tongue in cheek serious football but not role. I couldn't do that. I think that you perceive them to be airheads because of your own prejudices. For all you know they might be studying theoretical physics.
In case you didn't konw there is a recession. Jobs hard to come buy. why not use their looks if people are willing to pay. Money can be exchanged for good and services you know. People need it

Well maybe if you were a woman who had to put up with being seen as the dumber sex you'd feel differently.

Eh ok I'm gonna cut you a break here cause the mod removed my quote from you on another forum that revealed you were male so I wasn't implying you were jealous of other women I was implying you were a man with issues with women

Who sees them as dumb ??!?!? Where are you getting these weird ideas from ?

 maybe a 100 years ago and only then by idiots, there is no major divide between a woman's intellectual capabilities and a mans

Somehow I doubt the nice young ladies in the ads eat many bags of hunky dorys but that's beside the point.

Was it Frisps who started off this terrible practice of having hot women advertise fattening snacks? I'm thinking about the 'Would you kick her out of the bed for eating Frisps' type campaign.

Heh, yes, this is what gets me about these ads! :D Don't care about the scantily clad women, more just that you know they wouldn't let a Hunky Dory pass their lips! :)

Yep, seeing as Hunky Dorys are particularly calorific bags of crisps compared to others, that is the only possible outcome of eating them regularly. :) None of this "I can eat what I want and not gain weight" shíte!

we're not allowed to quote from other threads so I can't show you. But there was another thread about what you love about your own gender in which one guy liked that men 'are smarter and have logic and reason'. The post was 'thanked' by 6 people so I don't think that type of thinking is dead and gone. That's one example

Women don't get taken as seriously in debates politics etc. Its not as bad as it used to be but its still the case

Well it says more about the intelligence of the people who hold that opinion than it does about women

But it shows there are quite a few people out there who think like that. And it's easier to just say 'they're the idiots' when you're not part of the group that's being diminished

wow.Right, sorry, i read until page 8 but got bored of the crap that kept repeating over and over in different words,so skipped to the end. Anyways, i live 1/2 mile from perry crisps here in Meath(just saying). Don't like crisps.I do however like girls.Thats why i like this ad campaign, nice eye candy. But to all you haters - Its just advertising - Get over it. Let the girls look at guys in ad's, let the guys look at girls in ad's, hey, let some look at whomever they desire.Welcome to the world. This is how to sell products.look at the figures of increased sales.it works.rage complete.have a nice day.

Ok. But that does not mean we bow down to these peoples prejudices.
Alopex thinks these women in the add are whores because they supposedly betray themselves as dumb because they are in these ads and auspposedly this betrays all women as dumb now ??? Is that it ???

What did I even just say there ?

Should we ban the ads because of this kind of opinion.
    Eh no we shouldn't.

I haven't read the whole five page thread, but I have the same issue with these ads as I did with the Hunky Dorys rugby ads.

I'm sure this has all been mentioned before, but I think the ads are unimaginative and the whole rehash of the previous campaign specifically to cause controversy, and therefore increase the brand profile, too obviously manipulative.

I'm also tired of the same old "what about the diet coke ad" argument. One company ten years ago used a shirtless man to sell a product. Hardly comparable to the onslaught of scantily clad females used to sell products. And that campaign WAS controversial at the time. It was successful merely as it displayed a "f*ck you, see we can do it too" attitude rather than women buying the product actually being titilated by the ad.

I find any company that blatantly uses partially clothed people to sell a totally unrelated product pretty seedy. I won't be complaining to the advertising standards authority because to be honest, I don't care that much, and also that's exactly what Hunky Dorys would like me to do. I wouldn't be surprised if their employees are already on the phones trying to whip up some fervour.

It might put me off the brand though. I really like their buffalo flavour but since the previous rugby campaign I've bought it less and I might avoid it completely after this latest stunt.

I never agreed with his opinion. I was actually shocked at that remark. I was just responding to the notion that that kind of thinking is dead and gone - i.e. ''this isn't the 1950's'' - it's not

    a) Thread is 12 pages not 5

    b) 'I haven't read the thread but here's what I think anyway regardless of whether you've already discussed these topics or not' - Yes thanks for that. We have already covered these issues.

Nonsense, once the kettles on, women are taken very seriously indeed in these fields

    b) Also noted. Since I had nothing to add I assume you all agreed to disagree and left it at that.

Yeah it gets tiring and I agree with most of what you said. I didn't like it when it was the rugby ads because rugby has a much 'nicer' atmosphere than e.g. soccer. Rugby has a real family atmosphere to it and the fans all watch and celebrate together. I'd expect those kind of ads for soccer but it goes against the rugby atmosphere so I was glad when the IRFU shot it down. The scantily-clad women bit - yeah it gets boring, I don't like it, but money talks

I get your frustration but, in all fairness, I wouldn't expect anybody to read the entire 12 pages just so they can offer an opinion, er...opinion guy.

    So did I

I'm a woman and couldn't care less about this ad. I think men on here WANT women to be offended by things like this so they can make comments like the above

I'm just embarrassed that an advert this unoriginal causes people around the whole country to bitch and moan or exclaim "great marketing! sex sells!". It's a terribly lazy advertising campaign (in work we were sent the 2012 calender today, which has pics of last year's rugby ads) but our reaction as a nation is the real puzzle. Is a group of scantily-clad females really that shocking or eye-catching, in 2011?

Are we really that backwards to either want to call Joe Duffy about this 'outrage' or are we really dumb enough that we'll praise any advertising campaign that just shoves a giant pair of tits in a national paper alongside a meaningless slogan (last year's "are you staring at my crisps?", which contained no image of a crisp bag).
