You muppet! My car loan is now paid off. I bought it when i had the money for it a few years ago - that doesnt mean i have an endless supply of cash to foot the repair bill everytime some irresponsible arsehole damages it!

I thought it was good advice to give the girl at the time. Probably cost yeman a few quid but by the looks of it he had the money.

Maybe you should just get a banger?

    Took off eh?

Try not parking so close to the airport next time. Those pilots are bastards.

Ok ill trade in my nice motor for a banger so people can damage it. Why didnt i think of that before? Why dont we all drive bangers then we wont even need insurance?

Sorry but that is THE most f*cked up morals I've seen on boards! So if I work hard to buy nice things, some moron can come and f*ck my stuff up, cause I "could/should afford to have it fixed"??? Wow...

We all had a good few beers on us at the time and the girl was pretty upset.

What should we have done? Get all righteous and start demanding her details so we could give them to the big wig who owned the Merc? Taken her Reg and ratted her up?
It made perfect sense at the time to put her mind at ease and tell her to head off and we wouldn't say anything.

I don't know why the government don't just put a bit more tax on petrol and give everyone third-party insurance. You'd pay more if you drive fast or have a powerful engine (more fuel consumption) and you'd pay less if you didn't use the car much (low consumption) - exactly as it should be. And no need to waste time spending money on enforcement either.

Are you out of your mind!?!:eek::eek:

If that was the case many people wouldn't give a toss and driving a car would become like demolition derby because there would be no direct consequences for the indivdual who fcuked up my car!

Claims would be massive and very, very regular and drive up cost of fuel to €10 / litre before long.

Yup. That's the way Ireland is run. This is exact same thing as the debt forgiveness campaign - I fcucked up, you pay.

Well personally, I would of told her to stay where she was, she has insurance for a reason? Look you can try justify it whatever way you want...but if you bought a 60,000 euro car and came back to have your rear bumper smashed up and the person who done it is off scot free I know you'd be pissed! No-body wants to spend money they don't have to.
BTW the incident was probably on CCTV so your good deed? Probably in vain after she gets the call about a "hit & run" she's prime suspect for.

Moral hazard, you mean? No - we don't believe in moral hazard in this country. No such thing.

If your car was parked on Little Green street
There's a credit union there that might have caught it happening on CCTV.
That's bloody awful carry on and the 'morals' of some people on here leave a lot to be desired!!

Don't forget that if there is paintwork of the other transport on your car, if they can trace the model, sooner or later that transport has to pass through a camera somewhere (O' look, there one that matches the exact model that uses that particular paint - and who is in it? Lets look...) and a glimpse (or better) of the vehicle would have been taken - with a bit of luck.
Its harder now to avoid cameras in a lot of towns, than to try be caught on one on purpose!
So if the Gardi deem it worth it (or you), it might be possible, again by process of elimination and relevant timing, etc to possibly get your man/woman.

There was no CCTV so she definitely got off scott free. As regards the Merc, it was probably a company car.
If it wasn't a company car, and some spent a sickening amount of money on it, well then they either bought it for show or they have sh!t loads of cash. Either way, I've no sympathy for them if they don't have fully comp insurance.
    Maybe I have twisted morals.

The guards won't 'waste' two minutes on this. Not a prayer. You are right of course that it could be done if they were interested.

Sorry, but I wasn't trying to amuse you or anyone else.

Were you being sarcastic in your first post or was it your opinion?
Maybe I interpreted it the wrong way.

Aye. They put in the effort because I was hit badly. In most cases, they probably won't go to such an effort - and I can understand why in a lot of cases. Short version: economic viability.
(The government even further cuts on their resources will not help either in this regard)

Parked on a side street in town this morning and went off to do the shopping. When i came back some muppet had taken the side off the car! No cctv around or anything that would help me catch this arsehole! I drive a nice car, always look after it, im a careful driver and it makes me sick that some cnuts are so stupid and disrespectful that theyd take off like that!! Absolutely gutted and now ive to foot the bill - which i cant afford but it looks like ****e at the moment :-(

I would love to have caught him just about to drive off!!

Some people need to be taken off the road!

Serves you right for having an expensive car with the current state of the world.
Whats the point of spending 10 grand on a car when you could easily get a nice cheap car for 2000 and give the other 8000 to a family in need.

All cars do the same thing, they just get ya from A to B. I think its wrong to spend so much money just so you can have the luxury to drive a BMW with so many starving family in Africa and India ect ect

Even if they do have fully comprehensive insurance, claiming on it is going to add a fortune to their premium, and no-claims bonus protection costs extra too. Either way, the girl more or less robbed whoever owned the car.

That's the basic problem with any social system - always scrotes around looking for a free ride from others.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Just floating an alternate approach to third-party insurance.

The post count (1) suggests that you are probably right. That's why I didn't waste more than a sentence on our friend. :)

In what part of my post did i say that ya shouldnt have anything?

Same goes with computers and laptops, 250 is the max you should spend on a pc or laptop. Then we have these idiots that would spend 1000 or 2000 on a super high spec pc.

    Its absolutely disgusting.

How could anyone say "oh i think i will buy a pc for 2000 euro, and a car for 10000"
"the people in Africa will be grand with there rice for dinner and a 5 mile walk for water"

Yes because if a rich person decides not to buy a Merc....sending the price of one to Africa is probably what they'll do next.
