Parked on a side street in town this morning and went off to do the shopping. When i came back some muppet had taken the side off the car! No cctv around or anything that would help me catch this arsehole! I drive a nice car, always look after it, im a careful driver and it makes me sick that some cnuts are so stupid and disrespectful that theyd take off like that!! Absolutely gutted and now ive to foot the bill - which i cant afford but it looks like ****e at the moment :-(

I would love to have caught him just about to drive off!!

Some people need to be taken off the road!

If you were near some shops it might do no harm in asking some staff members did they see anything or they might even have there own private security cameras which may have picked up something. Hopefully the mongo shall be caught, good look.

If you can afford to drive a nice car, surely you can afford to insure it properly. Ever hear of no claims bonus protection??

It was on little green street, just off capel streetin dublin. My cars a silver 3 series bmw and there seems to be some red paint on the rear bumper. No cctv around unfortunately, its a quiet area so i wouldnt hold my breath for a witness - but if anyone did happen to see anything that would be class!

    Could've been Brian Cowan. . .

    That's a business area

Call into local shops, might have been someone outside having a smoke at the time

Edit, google street view is showing me lots of forklift drivers as there is a warehouse on the street

Some hungover forklift driver reversed into your car maybe? I know it's Sunday but people are still working

Any paint work on the car from the other one?
Its possible to trace the make of car and some details by examination of any paint from the offending transport that hit you.
(I had to get this done - and they traced the bugger)

How do they trace the particular car? I would have thought theyd just get as far as make, model, colour?

Maybe whoever did it was afraid they would have to pay for the damage and couldn't afford it, especially if it's a high spec car that would cost loads to fix.

True but in my case, of that type, how many were around my area at the time, who was available at that time to drive it, etc... they used a process of elimination - and eventually got the guy.

Thats great! Id say the process cost a few quid though?

Sounds like a lot of effort was involved.
Was it just that someone knocked into your car or was there something more serious involved that would merit such effort?

No. I have to say to their credit, it was all done by the local gardi and Dublin Castle detectives.

That's some serious logic flaw you got going on there...

An uninsured driver you mean? Yeah, there are an awful lot of them around. I don't know why the government don't just put a bit more tax on petrol and give everyone third-party insurance. You'd pay more if you drive fast or have a powerful engine (more fuel consumption) and you'd pay less if you didn't use the car much (low consumption) - exactly as it should be. And no need to waste time spending money on enforcement either.

Ah! yeah that's probably it... I was thinking they were afraid OP had magical apple creating powers and would ask them to eat apples which they're not really all that keen on.

You've an eye for detail. :pac:

So the owner of the now damaged car should just have to foot the bill?!

Same thing happened to my mam twice in quick sucession recently. Someone left a huge dent in the car while she was parked in the local shopping centre, CCTV isn't pointed at the car park so no way to trace the culprit. She had to fork out 600euro she didn't really have, to get it fixed, then about 2 weeks later some other gobsh1te hit it again, and again drove off.

I suppose if you were injured and some f*cker drove off it's completely different than if some one just caused damage to a car, I wouldn't say the Guards would have time to waste.

I remember I was on a night out with work a few years back.

A few of us were outside smoking at the front of the pub and we saw some one reverse smack bang into a big new Merc. A girl got out looking really shaken up asking what should she do, should she give her details etc.
We told her to just leave and say nothing, if someone has such an expensive car they could/should afford to have it fixed themselves.

Well if they're not prepared to pay for any damage they might cause then they shouldn't be on the road.

You muppet! My car loan is now paid off. I bought it when i had the money for it a few years ago - that doesnt mean i have an endless supply of cash to foot the repair bill everytime some irresponsible arsehole damages it!

Sorry but that is THE most f*cked up morals I've seen on boards! So if I work hard to buy nice things, some moron can come and f*ck my stuff up, cause I "could/should afford to have it fixed"??? Wow...
