Upgrading to a Ford Fusion?

    Hi All

Having had a bit of trouble with my import March lately (my first car - have had it 6 years), I've been considering upgrading to something slightly bigger and better equipped, possibly early next year. After much looking about and mind changing, it would seem that the Ford Fusion is a good choice for me, and I'd just like to get some opinions on it.

I'm not looking for anything flash or anything, just a reliable, economical ride that will get me from A to B and occasionally C along the motorway. Since I'm planning on squeezing at least another 5 or 6 years from the next car, I'm looking for something with enough space to be able to manage a kid or two in the next few years, and a big dog in the meantime. I did look at the fiesta as a slightly cheaper option, but the price difference does not seem like much when you consider the extra space the fusion has. I would be looking at a max budget of about €6000 and would hope to get something no older than a 2004 model. I've seen a couple on carzone, but I'm just wondering if the older ones are as reliable or if I would be best to wait and see if I can get something from 07 or 08. (Doubtful with the budget I have, I know).

Would anyone recommend anything other than the fusion?

The fusion is basically a taller fiesta, a unwhelming car but reliable car and does the job. I've sold a few, some diesel one's in 1.4 cc, 0-60 in a fortnight!

Yeah, well that suits me. As I said, I'm coming off the back end of a micra.... I rented a Chevy Aveo in the States a few months back and it was a Ferrari compared to my little rattler :D

Was also looking at a Mazda 2 (pre 2008), they seem to have a very similar body shape. Would they be as reliable?

Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta are the same car under the different bodies. Fusion would be a bit more practical and taller than the Mazda 2.

The mazda would be good and reliable too.
