Why do I care how "ripped off" I am when it's still the cheapest one I can buy?

Really, so do Tesco buy up ALL the milk so that you can't buy it anywhere else and have to pay their vastly inflated prices? Because I'm pretty sure I've bought milk in plenty of places.

There's a vast difference between profiteering and making a profit.

If you've worked in the rag trade, or at the back end of the supermarket stock supply chain, 'profiteers' is the right term to use, take my word for it.

I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here and just say in regards to profiteering etc.

There are very few sure ways of doubling your money in life, instances such as this allow you to do so quite easily due to the demand and so it's not surprising many people will attempt to earn quick money where they can.

Tbh if they managed to go to the trouble of getting multiple tablets and want to make some money, then more power to them. After all, the customer is still getting a good deal, and the seller gets to make a quick profit. We are in a recession after all ;).

I guarantee you, had these been priced at €200 or even higher, they would have still sold out. The HP tablet really shows up the tat other merchants are peddling at the moment.

The prev time I was in Argos, they insisted I use the automated machine. Now it seems they are rewarding you for using a till:mad:

    Only in Argos

No idea if it's been posted or of any use but in-store stock checkers (as of this evening) say that neither Argos Blanch stores have any stock of the 16gb or 32gb versions as of this afternoon.

    It is what it's.

well, i was not lucky enough to put my hands on one, but i can't agree with you... hp decided to get rid of them, selling below cost to get quick money, there is obviously not enough stock for everyone that want it for 99, so "profiteers" are helping distributing them to all of us so people that weren't lucky enough to get it still can have one... if they decide to pay higher price

it may not seem 'fair', but that way those touchpads will make their way to people that really wants them, i really think that this is better way than sticking to 'communism' ;)

i can see your point, but i don't believe in santa anymore

Sorry but that is an absolutely ridiculous post Jonny.

If the "original" sale price was 200, they would still have flown off the shelves IMOH. It's pointless making the comparison now, when the sale price is 99. Why would they fly off the shelves now @200 when people might still get it for 99?

    Non argument me thinks.

I don't want to get into a big thing, but what you just said makes no sense.

How does somebody who buys an item that they don't actually want for themselves and then selling in onto "people that really wants them" help it get into the hands of "people that weren't lucky enough to get it"?

Surely if it wasn't bought by the "profiteers" in the first place, then it would've ended up in the hands of somebody who really wanted it (for less money).
If nobody actually bought them to sell them on, then they would only be bought by people who actually want to own them.

I'm not saying they're wrong for trying to make a profit. I say fair play to them.
I just disagree with your logic.

Edit: This is in reply to m4rkiz's post by the way.

Ah fair enough I thought he was referring to current prices.

Seems almost "horrifying" people were paying 400 sterling for these before, I bet this bargain hysteria has more than a few HP execs thinking..

Put trough a pre order, they were allowing it earlier and I saw the window open but I hadn't finalized it, did it there and it worked. They began pre orders after they uped the price to 400, so don't know what price I will be offered it at, if I get an offer that is.

If it's the only way to get one (and it quite possibly is at this point) I can accept that argument. I'd still argue as a point of principle it's better not to, but I've suffered gadget-lust for many years now, and it's still a pretty good deal, so I can understand doing it. It's a shame to have to do it though.

Funny you should mention the recession, the kind of people doing this are the same kind of people who borrowed hundreds of millions to build a few crappy apartments during the celtic tiger, the same kind of people who caused the recession in the first place :)

    Seriously?

"helping distribution", "so people that weren't lucky enough to get it still can have one", "those touchpads will make their way to people that really wants them" ???

Those touchpads could easily have made their way to people who wanted them if the profiteers hadn't snapped them up first. The reason people weren't lucky enough to get is because profiteers were buying them up.

And as for the communism argument, do you realise that the point of capitalism is that you pay people in exchange for goods and services or some benefit and in exchange. The only thing these people offer you is that they relieve you of even more of your money. The touchpad you buy from them, you could have just bought in a store for far less. Instead you are paying them extra to have denied you that ability.

I can understand people still wanting a touchpad, and they are still a great deal even at double or even triple the price, but I really can't understand defending the profiteers doing it. If I hadn't got one I'd like to think that I wouldn't pay over the odds on principle, I hate touts, but if I did I'd do it very begrudgingly, and certainly wouldn't be sticking up for them.
