Solid state drives on 4 year old Dell dimension pc and notebook

hi ,
I have dell dimension 5150 pc which is about 4 years old.
Is it possible to replace the c drive with a solid state drive..i think the type of drive i have in it already is an ide drive...
do solid state drives work with these type of connections?

I also have a notebook?Its about 1.5 years old.
is it possible to get Solid state drives to replace the c drive on this

It's more likely you have a SATA connection in your desktop PC, but it's easy enough to check, all you have to do is open up your PC and check the cable type. Use Google images if you are not sure of the differences between SATA and IDE connections. Also your laptop is certainly SATA and it is possible to get 2.5" SSDs for laptops.

what size SSD drives do i need for pc's and notebooks?

3.5" for the desktop and 2.5" for the laptop

The standard SSD comes as a 2.5" drive, so just get two 2.5" drives. You will pay a small premium for a 3.5" SSD. SSD's have no moving parts so you can leave them loose in your desktop case and it won't get damaged. (proof)

You can get a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter very cheap too if you want the SSD to be mounted properly.
