I do have a sconce at the Christianity Forums and the Agnotstic Forums and hey even the Athiest Forums from time to time.

They all seem like bollox to me.

Christianity they are all arguing over the colour of unicorns farts. It's like ultimate Chinese whispers. They argue over the most self rigeous bigoted crap. My favourite recent thread was homosexuality is the gateway to paedophilia and only God can forgive us so we is all going to hell, Great, I'll pack my swimsuit.

It doesn't help they have a bi-polor God who is all Batman on everyone's ass in the old testament and Oprah in the new one. It's a book. A crap book written by Iraq's and Palestinians. It's genius is it's vagueness. And it's policed by a cult of closet gay old men who protect the church before all national laws. Yeah- because we all want to be lectured to on morals by a crowd of closeted archaic old men.

    What's the alternative?

Judiasm?- The religion is basically based around waiting for a dude to conquer the world and give it to them. Fact

Islam- Forget the twenty wives, it's kinda like Christianity with a prophet and some dirty stories and loads of fighting between the various off shoots. Christianity 2.0 I guess.

Mormans- These guys I like- Not only the original chuggers but they believe an omnipitent being that created the universe requires 330 odd of their elders to asend into heaven and become the Board. Sure- Best of luck with that.

Buddism- Not only fashionable, but the worst you'll get is passing out from all the chanting and breathing, but I'm too lazy to be re-incarnated. And speaking of this is kinda where stuff gets ridiculous- the Dali Lama and the Panchen Lama are supposed to recognise each other but the Chinese have the Panchen locked in a dungeon with a pretender in the wings so looks like their religious leaders are going to be MORE political soon. Nice.

ANY Religion when you step back and look at it is ridiculous. And they are all technically wrong.

What happens when you die- Your heart stops. Sin e. If there is energy or whatever that moves on- well who knows. Instead of stopping there we have to pull down a religion cereal with a list of beliefs on the side and proclaim this to be "our" faith. No it's not. I didn't base it on my beliefs. I was born into it or took up a subscription like Sky. That's not a belief that's an acceptance of someone else's beliefs.

Then the other side we have the Athiests- There is no God. They run around all superior licking Dawkings ball sack proclaiming science to have all the answers and being all smug and superior. Yeah, guess what, you have basically subscribed to a belief system written in a book- sound familiar?

Not only is there no God- they have to tell you at every occasion. If you are so sure then why spell it out in such elaborate detail- are you trying to convince others or yourself? I don't go around telling everyone there is no Bosom Higgs Particle- oh wait, there isn't. Crap. Well back to the theoritical physics drawing board.

And then we have the rise of the pseudo science- pseudo religions. Where a fat hippy who smells a bit like cabbage whose brats are running around in cloth nappies basically holds her hands over you and you will be cured! Magic. No- not magic. Bullsh1t.

People are flocking to this crap. Christina Gallagher is opening new mini cults everywhere spreading a message of paranoia and imminent doom and and and buy this rosary bead- only 20 Euro. Ca Ching!

So - Religion is bollox. No Religion is Bollox. Agnostic's are basically- "I dunno"

What's left? There must be something outside the box- Yes and being boards obviously we are going to get the flying spaghetti monster and Jedi but at the moment if I had to pick something to worship my religion would be described as "vagina" seeing as I spend more time trying to get into that than some intangible heaven.

Anyone else have any ideas or you want to join my genitalia based belief system??

Why do you need anything? Why can't you just get on with living your life and leave it at that.

You can't choose what to believe. You either believe it or you don't.

Just ignore religion altogether and do nothing about it.

Just carry on with your life, but make a conscious effort to live by your own moral code.

It would also be a good idea to make an assessment of your own sense of right and wrong, and see if you think it's a good way to live your life and, to an extent, make life better for others. If not, make adjustments as you see fit.

Basically, live the life you think is best for finding a balance between living the life that's best for yourself and those around you, and maybe makes the world a little better.

The whole post is equally ridiculous.

OP - if you don't believe in any religions and you don't believe in any gods then I hate to break it to you but you're an atheist. You just happen to not want to be a part of the stereotypical atheism that you've imagined up.

And FYI the agnostism and atheism forums are the same forum.

Spirituality in Estonia - the world's 'least religious' country

When Estonians were recently asked whether religion played an important part in their life, only 20% said yes. It suggests the Baltic country is, statistically, the least religious country in the world.
The windy streets of Tallinn offer a misleading picture of Estonia's religiosity.
Spires decorate the old town, bells ring out on Sundays and song emanates from churches as visitors walk in and out.
A closer look reveals that many of these visitors are tourists.
When I went to the city's large Lutheran Dome Church one Sunday almost all of the 70 congregants turned out to have travelled from the Netherlands.
A handful of people standing at the back - 15 at the most - were the sum total of regular Estonian church-goers

Here's the way to go. ;)

What's the story with faith healers? Business is booming for a few in Galway, one charges €10 a go to see him and there's queues to see him most days :o

    Recession busting business :D

There is a growing trend of atheism at the moment! Actually, its just idiots hopping on the anti-church bandwagon without actually giving much thought to their beliefs.

Overly vocal wannabe 'atheists' with idiotic generalisations are equally as annoying as religious freaks trying to force their views!

    Don't believe? Don't attend church!!

This is like asking for an alternative to lights on or lights off. And for good measure, seeking an alternative to lights dimmed also

In fiarness, there is a big difference between religion and spirituality.

OP - Why not start your own religion and recruit followers..?!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Just be a Human and claim all human culture and history as your own, don't pick one religion be them all, they all have an influence on your life anyway.

Every belief system, including non-belief, will have a category all to itself on Internet forum sites. Each one will be packed with myopic worshipers of their respective God, be it Christ or Richard Dawkins. Reading these forums will only serve to highlight the lunacy of it all.

Who gives a shít. Get out of bed in the morning, breath the free air and think how great it is that you have, on average and notwithstanding terminal illness, another xx years on this earth, before you are dead for eternity. :)
Then go and see about registering this 'vagina' religion. I will be your first apostle!

I don’t get it. It's like politics, why are people so eager to sign up to an ideology?

Make your own peace with the universe; you don’t need to subscribe to an existing formula.

It would be very much within your cultural veneration to engage in a little Family Religion and look into ancestral worship/veneration of the dead. Practised throughout the world and something in Ireland we're allowing to recede into the mists of time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭wild_cat

What church were you entered into as a kid?

Go for the more fun version of that.

Satanism perhaps? All you really have to do is live your life to the full.

    Worship of the dead?

    Kinda like Necrophilia??

Or do ya mean worshiping dead people-

Kinda like Jesus? Or that other dude- Muhammad- the one with the curly hair?

Veneration is the practise of worshiping saints. What is "cultural veneration"-

    That like the Bertieites?

No thanks- next cereal box please. This one is gone off.

I wasn't born- I was created in a lab. My Birthsign is Pyrex.

Satanism- wellllllllllll, Alister Crowley do what thoust will is the whole of the law doesn't really work in practice. A quick look at the road fatalities in India will put pay to that.

I have to say I'm kinda disappointed. All I'm getting is people trying to put me into pre-definded boxes. Which would be fine if that was a vagina, which it isn't.

And as for Athiest and Agnostic being the same forum- sure why not. Superior athiests are claiming them, I thought the whole point of agnostic is that you don't disbelieve either- How are they lumped together is it just that when you are too lazy to even bother thinking about a belief system you are hardly going to get indignant if it is being subsumed into another.

Agreed. You're just as free to ignore lack of religion as you are free to ignore religion itself.

Mind you, I can see where the OP is coming from; some atheists in particular are so...um...evangelical...about their lack of belief that they appear to become what they despise. That's why, as an atheist myself for many years, I have never belonged to any "atheist clubs".

Religion only annoys me when it tries to force bull**** on me, otherwise I don't mind what people do. Anyway, it's not all bad; some of the most beautiful archtiecture has been produced in the pursuit of religion, and the bible does contain some great yarns. Badly told, though. "Thou shalt not read the Bible for its prose", as someone said. :)
