Islam- Forget the twenty wives, it's kinda like Christianity with a prophet and some dirty stories and loads of fighting between the various off shoots. Christianity 2.0 I guess.

I'm a Muslim. If you are looking for something, or the meaning to life, you need to do a some deeper research. If you are looking for nothing, and are happy to believe we just "happened", and there is no meaning to life, continue to believe the above :-)

You can do as much research as you like. It doesn't necessarily mean you're right.

I think there are useful things in religions about how we can conduct ourselves and treat others but are they the divine revelations of some sort of God? I don't think so.

Religion should be put in a bag and throw over the bridge

Why do you assume that people who don't share your beliefs have meaningless lives? That's kind of arrogant. I'm an atheist and there's plenty of meaning and purpose in my life.

My point is the OP's one line summing up of each religion seemed quite wide of the mark, especially in the case of Islam. If he wants to rule out each religion he really should do a little more research so that he actually knows what he is dismissing.

I don't assume that at all. The OP is the one who said he is searching for meaning to life, he listed all of the major religions and dismissed them all. As I just said, he owes it to himself to actually do some proper research before he dismisses each one.

Presumably you applied the same proper research to the Norse, Mayans. Babylonians etc. etc. religions?

I think you would find people would simply argue about which bridge, which side and which time of day to do it at.

Then one person would decide that the guy who threw that bag was worth a bit of praise and that would spiral. The Religion Killer would end up being worshiped and millions of people would die because of different interpretations of who the Religion Killer was, what he looked like, where he was from and how he got here.

I don't have to listen to every band in the world to know the Beatles are the band for me. But if I heard just one song each from a handful of bands, I really should do more research before telling people that all music is crap.

    Worship me.

It fulfills a basic need to have a deity however false.
We both know I'm not a god so you are not being taken in by the sham.

And I get to be flattered a little. Nobody's hurt, everbody wins.

If you can write something better than the Qur'an, maybe I'll consider it :)

+1 on the Pantheism. Works for me. I don't believe in a higher power, other than nature. Which, judging by the mighty wind blowing across Galway, is certainly a higher power than I.
