400,000 posts and the site's database server would likely implode.

Did you manage to get one?

Aside from the wishing on a star stuff, doesn't it seem likely that HP will have to empty the distribution warehouses of stock now anyhow and ship the available devices to the vendors?
Will vendors make enough, per unit, to warrant selling them?
Will it cost HP too much to ship them? Will it be more cost effective to just bung them in a skip somewhere? Or sell them for hightech scrap?
If nothing else they have shown the attraction of a dirt cheap Tab and, aside from the Chinese, no one is making them.

    Vertakill,

Pissing and moaning (not to mention arguing) on thread is not helping your cause to be honest.

The thread is a train-wreck.. I've washed my hands of it and have expressed an interest in closing it numerous times.

But there are still a lot of interested parties.. and I can't go around banning people left and right.

If you're not happy with how the thread is progressing, I can only suggest you 'Unfollow It'.

Sorry to be blunt, but I'm being honest here!

well done to all who got one

Wouldn't really deem that pi$sing and moaning to be fair.
I'm just trying to get the point across that the incredibly selfish people that have got their TouchPads (by means of begging or not) that are coming along here looking for the best skins or the best apps or talking about upcoming Android sh!te are really ruining it for the rest of us that are having a bad time as it is.

And even if you did give a few sanctions out, the people could still monitor the thread, just not aid in derailing it and I think an awful lot of people would agree with me here.
You were lightning quick at responding to the first mention of 'mod' in here so I don't see why you can't get a little snappier with sanctions.

That's my 2c anyways and I'll drop it for now and continue to monitor the thread as best I can.

Kinda obvious from my first line is it not? :)

    I don't drink ovaltine! :P

Seriously though, for anyone trying to keep tabs on whats going on and where the next shipments are or wheres the best place to keep an eye on, it's VERY difficult to find actual useful posts when you have to keep going to the next page because some knob has been posting pictures of them opening the touchpad box, others crying because they want a reservation code etc etc.

The posts are coming in so fast that it's difficult enough as it is without people getting sidetracked talking about what skins will fit on the TouchPad and what software can be installed on it or what apps they should install first... as I said, it's getting a little ridiculous.

In any other Bargain Alert thread, a mod would've came in and sanctioned people for derailing it but I'm sure it's near impossible to moderate this thread with the sheer volume of posts and I'd rather not report posts on everyone and get people sanctions if they can just stop at their own accord.

That is true it is hard to find out where they are on sale etc but if it was easy they would sell out much quicker.

For marketing purposes their giving the vendors and HP alot of exposure

So Tallaght does have stock then? I asked Argos Helpers on Twitter earlier and they said they were out of stock, reservation or not.

Edit: To the last poster, read the past few pages. Android can run on the Touchpad. That said, it will take quite some time to get a stable, fully functional build and even longer to get an even remotely simple install method.

About 2 hours ago I got a text........ it said your reservation is ready. Hop in the car fly over to argos. Go straight to the Kiosk so there is no human interaction and sText came in today ut in my reservation number. Success.... put in details and received receipt.
Slowly walk up to counter cool as sh@t. I swear I thought balloons were going to fall from the ceiling. I felt like I had finally won something. Anyways, manager (I think) was saying how lucky I was and by the looks of this thread I am.
I havent played with it for mnore than 2 mins setting up OS account with it. Just restarted it and I like. Have a Honeycomb Notion Ink Adam so this should be a good comparison. Thanks OP for the original post. Manager said they had gotten 16 in and I was a lucky man. He said there were lots of irrate people there today trying to get them. You HAVE to have a reservation number.

Anyways for those of you who have reservations and want the info:
I booked it on 21st at 22.31 for Galway. - Got email and text confirmatin with reservation number for a pickup for 30th AUg - 1st Sept.
Text came in today at 19.55 and said to pickup by 01-09-11. I was there in 30 mins.
    Bingo bango

Says it shows no stock online, but they had 4 or 5 this evening (about an hour ago to be precise)

Funny you should say that I popped by Naas this evening about 8ish to pick up a couple of Touchpads and bumped into Elvis who was just leaving with his order....

Manager in Limerick Childers Road more or less admitted to cancelling my order and taking it himself! Has one reserved in the Crescent too and got that no problem.

I wouldn't have too much sympathy for wingnut. According to him he already had two.

I just think its not fair on others, that the manager should take it.

Here we go again... can we seriously stfu about sh!t unrelated to the actual availability of the TouchPad? I don't care about how difficult it is to put an Android ROM on a TouchPad if I don't have one... which probably goes for 99% of the people posting on this thread.

If you've got one and you don't have anything beneficial, leave the thread.

If you don't have one and don't have anything beneficial, monitor the thread.

If you have anything remotely beneficial, by all means post it!

It's really that easy! Tired of trawling through all the photos of Argos staff members and other peoples fcking TouchPad boxes...

400,500 of the 401,000 posts on this thread are complete horsesh!t. Wish a mod would just start cutting out posts or something here, it's getting ridiculous.

    Totally agree with you.

If a small few of these repeat offends get a wrist slap now, then this thread will move from a total stressed "free for all" to an organised BA help thread.

Not confirmed yet but a little hope for those that didn't get one. I was speaking to someone from HP who works on the WebOS project at work today and apparently there is still unallocated stock that will be brought in to the pipeline in a week or two. I will get a heads up an let all know if and when this does happen.

Was like music to my ears maybe my dream of getting hold of a touchpad is still alive :D

Dont blame me if he's spoofing though, I'd love one too, but am stuck at home until the wife gets back from work, (1 year old sleeping upstairs)

    Anyone confirm?

Your mate is a windup merchant!!!

Even though i knew better, I tore down in the car and ran in to a staff member who proceeded to break his hole laughing at me asking for a touchpad!! :o

He said they got 5 in and they're all gone. No more will be coming in to argos shops he said.
As for unfulfilled reservations in the naas store and others, he said any unclaimed ones will be snapped up by staff as they're monitoring the online reservations which show up available stock 20 minutes before the shops get the stock updates via their internal systems.

Tell your mate the bill for the speeding ticket will be in the post!! :P
(I'll settle for a touchpad as part payment!!). :D
