Is there anyone other than Argos getting Touchpads. Any news from Harvey Norman etc? I just don't see any logic in Argos. IF they had sense all the managers OF every shop should have got notices and then they tell all the employees that come into work!

the way i see it now is the only possibility of me getting one of these is to get in my delorean hit 88 miles per hour and hit someone walking out of a shop with one.

i could try time travel but that would be as fictional as all the stock argos is going to fill their reservations with

Amazon are one of the biggest retail outfits in the world so one would imagine that they would have handled this fire sale in a much more professional manner. Given the obvious public interest I would have expected them to discuss in detail and agree their allocation of the HP inventory prior to offering these for sale at the discounted price on 23rd August. They should have offered for sale only the number of units for which they had a confirmed allocation, after all they were well aware that the item had been discontinued. I suggest all disappointed Amazon customers register their disgust with such poor practice by email. They might sit up and take notice if a few thousand emails land in their inbox.

Similarly if HP couldn't mange to get their house in order for this dispersal then it doesn't augur well for their future as a major elctronics manufacturer. Their logistics if obviously as poor as some of their business practices.

As for Argos well one couldn't be suprised by such shoddy behaviour nationwide - they are a disaster - I tried to reserve using their on-line system and got confirmation emails with no reservation number which came as no surprise whatsoever.

I would imagine that this thread on Boards has broken all records and it has made me laugh on many occasions....it's been fun (even if most of us are still touchpadless).

Anyhow my last word on this is sad, mad, bad,....touchpad!

To be honest.. rumours on incoming stock is just that.. rumours!

What you hear from one Argos employee / manager should not be held as gospel..

.. as we've seen today, straight answers is not something Argos excel in.

I agree but in fairness to the manager in my local store, she went to great lengths to help despite the attitude from HQ. She got onto a techie who looked at the system and seemed to be able to track where my reservation was. That said if I hadnt made a fuss I would have walked away with the initial story of 'warehouse cancellation' and been none the wiser.

    Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

had bought 1 on dabs on tuesday morning but no luck - still in my dabs account as processing.

sent them an email and got this reply today.
So HP/supplier - must have some stock out there.

    *******************

    Hi XXX,

Due to the high volume of orders yesterday for the Touchpads the system allowed some orders to go through after we had sold out of the items.
Fortunately though, we are sourcing stock from our supplier to fulfil the orders that we have.

    Apologies for the confusion.

    Best regards,

That's strange. I have reservation for Dundrum and I spoke with manager 2 hrs ago. They have nothing in stock right now, and they don't know if and when they will get anything. The never know what they will get next day as he said.
    but the staff will :)

I was told by Argos that they won't get them in back in stock as they are discontinued.

Feel sorry for the retailers to be stuck trying to sell this product. Selling at next to nothing resembling a decent profit, websites under constant attack of the F5 virus :D, snowed under by enquiries to purchase, enquiries to availability, enquiries if the order went through,.... shipping dates etc etc...

I didn't get one, so I'm not trying to rub salt into wounds, but chaces are that a small fraction of those who wanted to get one will.

For those holding out hope, please see my signature on a product that was coming to life end and selling at a knock down price. However I don't think that we have come to the levels of incompetence that were witnessed from CPW ....... yet.

    Best regards,

I wonder if their 'suppliers' are the people who ordered more than one. Someone on their forums ordered 4 which has now been reduced to 1.

Like I've said before hopefully that means we get our Touchpads. I wouldn't really bank on them getting more from the supplier to be honest.

at least Dabs can say - give us x amount of tabs as we have them sold.
Might be better than trying to get too many - say 20 times more than they have orders for.

there must be some still available going thru the supply chain.

will see over next few days - better then nothing anyhows.

    glta.

Hey, any ideas on my position? I reserved a touchpad on saturday for an argos store, and it said:
    Reserved
will be available to collect from:
Saturday August 27th to Tuesday August 30th 2011

Any ideas if I will actually get an touchpad, or if argos are getting any more stock in? Is my touchpad pretty much gone like? Anyone else in this position? I got a reservation code in the email also.

I was in argos Naas earlier today checking on a touchpad reservation. There was a woman and her teenage son having a very animated conversation with the manager. The woman was trying to get them to give her son a touchpad but he didnt have a reservation. The manager was polite and told her a number of times that it was unlikely he would get one, but that if there were any returned units he might be able to reserve one ... She advised his best bet was to keep an eye on the website. The mother was very unhappy and not accepting this ... She said a number of times that her son was "following this on the internet" and that she knew there were units available and she was insisting her son got one immediately. The conversation was getting heated and the woman and son were getting very aggressive. Things were made worse by the son chirping in with his "expert" knowledge on the amount of touchpads [based in this thread] available as the manager was trying to explain things. The whole thing got very nasty and lasted about 20 minutes in total. The manager told me that was the 5th or 6th such conversation she'd had today, and that wasnt even the most aggressive.

I would bet this was repeated all over ireland many many times today.

This whole thing is getting way out of hand at this stage.

I gave my Argos reservation code to someone else, and it said the same thing. They went to claim it yesterday and were told they were too late??? It all sounds very bizarre.
