It was confirmed somewhere that hayes is Contracted on with munster till the end of the WC

But with Horan staying at Munster aswell we mightnt have any need for him so he may well not feature. but i think the experience/senioroity might be called upon.

    Edit:

    14. Doug HowlettProbably should be captain. The best player in the team.

    3. John Hayes This is the only place I strongly disagree with you. Mixing Archer with Horan would be the right thing to bring people up to speed. And Hayes is fla'ed anyway. Let him provide cover and go out without killing himself

    4. Mick O'Driscoll If Dougie isn't captain then it's going to be Micko. Although he has a big fight on his hands. With DOC in poor form it's up to Micko to take his place, and that's with Nagle chomping at the bit to move up the ranks

    17. Stephen Archer I'd have him starting ahead of Hayes. Really aggressive. Probably the most noticeable on the pitch of our newer forwards. Really gets the hard yards.

As buceph pointed out, mixing archer with Horan actually does sound like a solid idea. So ya go with that.

On the captaincy issue. I feel It will go to micko, then coughlan (deservedly), then howlett. Though at the weekend It was P O'Mahony that was captain ahead of Dougie.

"Munster announced their squad on Tuesday for the coming season and while it did not include John Hayes the 206 times capped prop, he is contracted until the end of the Rugby World Cup."

So he is not gone yet.

Also Botha is out injured for a month

I would think Hayes will stick around to cover Botha for the month, probably behind Borlase and Archer.

du Preez, Horan and Hurley would cover loosehead.

EDIT: I'd love if Hayes was to get his last game in Thomond Park, could well be against the Ospreys in early October. I'd probably cry big manly tears.

Last I heard Borlase had been sent back to Christchurch to be used as landfill in some of the quake affected areas

In which case I think we can predict further collapses in Christchurch.

He's in much demand. The Japanese were keen to get him over, 20 stone sand bags are like gold dust over there.

Its unfortunate but understandable that the Bull won't take the limelight.

He has been the greatest role model bar none in Irish rugby IMHO.

Shut up & get on with it. Traditional values.

Go well Bull, and thanks for the memories.

Did Sean Scanlon not get cut from the squad in May?

Did Sean Scanlon not get cut from the squad in May?

I think hes on a development contract. He looked a good player whenever I've seen him play and he could be needed now because of Jones' injury.

Yeah I was very surprised he was cut. We've hardly an abundance of pacey and creative back 3 players. Good luck to him, he'll get a decent shot with Wawrich gone and Jones broken. What are the other 15 options Hurley/Murphy/Deasy?

See in the team selection for Sat that Earls is no 13. He really needed a good run at 11, what is Kidney thinking of? This will put him under even more pressure to try and get his jersey back from Trimble who seems to be coaches fav. Tough on McFadden also

Has to be what's best for the team overall, not what's best for Earls personally. Right now Trimble is playing better as a winger than Earls is, the RWC is about form, not about long term planning.

Thats all. Luke O'Dea is a fullback in the academy alright. Scanlon could be better than the lot of them. I'd like to see a bit more of him.

Of those 3 Hurley wuld be my choice, I think Deasy had his chance and may have blown it.

Would like to see Scanlon get a chance to prove himself, so tomorrow may be the start he needs.

Scanlon was good for the A team in the bits I've seen of him but he was poor enough for Con, iirc, in the play-off last year.

does anyone have a good source for updates of the Munster A Connacht A match.

I know Connacht led 14-9 at HT from the munster rugby twitter

Best of a bad bunch. I think Hurley looks far more comfortable on the wing myself. He seems to lose confidence at full back when things are going against him.

Final score Munster 22 Conacht 20

That's an exceptionally young Connacht pack. Great to see so much home grown talent in that pack and a lot of them very impressive whenever I've seen them.

Munster win 22-20 with a try deep into injury time from Tom Gleeson converted by JJ Hanrahan. Not a bad effort from a very young Connacht academy side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,803 ✭✭✭porterbelly

Connacht have try disallowed with last play of the game from Mark Dolan as ref called for offside. Controversial to say the least

6 of the pack are u20, Maguire is just out of 20's as is Dermot Murphy

Munster A beat Connacht A 22-20. Last minute try from Gleeson, converted by JJ Hanrahan won it for Munster.

3-0 at halftime between Munster and LI.

11-3 to Munster, nearing the final whistle.

11-10 FT, London Irish got a last minute try off a 5m scrum. Munster got a few yellow cards apparently.

Three yellow cards - clearly haven't learned! Good defence though, some nice running lines and plenty of offloading in the tackle. Keatley looked sharp, pace picked up when Stringer was brought on. Hopefully we won't hear anything on the injury front, but Nagle went down twice (and pretty sure he stayed off second time) and Peter O'Mahony also went off but came back.

    🤪
