Since it's called "Ball", it's hardly a debs style event if it's in a nightclub, right?! :P

Also would you say I'd pick up a combo ticket on Sunday? Is it open Sunday? :o

You'll need a tuxedo unfortunately, no entry without it...

Nope, it's not a Debs-style event; wear what you'd usually wear on a night out!

I'm afraid the SU isn't open Sundays; we're open 9.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday, with tickets being available from 9.30am to 3pm (our secretary, who deals with ticket sales, finishes at 3pm during the summer).

    I can't sense if it's sarcasm or not <_<

Definitely sarcasm. But a tuxedo would be one hell of an ice-breaker:P

I knew never to trust a mathematician. It's just too similar to magician, and you know, never trust a magician either.

So when do people expect tickets to run out? I can't see myself being in Maynooth before the 11th/12th of September - is this too late?

You should be grand, I reckon the week lectures start back will be the tough week to get them. Make sure to head to the SU early that week to make sure you get yours :D

According to people I've talked to; very strict! Apparently they'll check your id, and if they don't believe it's you, they'll quiz you on it/ask for a bank card/student id to match your own id!

I was never once turned away from the SU when I was 17; all they say to you is take it easy :p Student card is the important ID for getting in so make sure and have it with you. It's the same pretty much everywhere down town too.

hey guys just wondering will registration/orientation week be too late to buy tickets for calvin harris/ball, will they likely be gone by then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭mickstupp

Every time someone mentions that name I think of either Calvin and Hobbes, or Rolf Harris.

Usually is fine, just get it early in the week so you're not disappointed. :)

First I've ever heard of that.

Anyway you'll be using your student ID. That's the main one accepted all around \Maynooth. It takes preference over age cards and the like!
    Particularly for student nights

Does your student card not have you Date of birth on it?

Yea it does. I don't think they ever actually go as far to check it though!

I was more just making the point that that quote didn't really make sense to me!
The first ID anyone will ever want to see is your student card!

I've seen people turned away from nights for not having it!

The bit in bold is definitely true! Happened to me a few times :p A lot of places won't let you in with anything else, including an age card.

I was refused entry to the roost two years ago (at the age of 24 ffs) for not having a student card. So bring one with you at all times and even after you leave keep it handy for the student nights out. It's a free pass, never mind the dob.

What if you've friends up who dont go to Maynooth?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 912 ✭✭✭Norrdeth

Then you have to sign them in to the SU,
for pubs off campus Garda ID is OK.
They can't stop the locals from going to the pubs.

Then they can't go to any of the student nights (don't ask me how you work that out, I'm still learning!)
They're the main time that student ID is required. That and all the big nights like last night of college when the place will be packed anyway

Put simply: it all depends on the place and the night

The SU is slightly different though. they'll accept non Student ID but you'll have to have a student to sign you in!

Well unfortunately they probably won't get in anywhere in the town if they're young. You can get them into the SU assuming they're 18, they allow you to sign in a guest. But I wouldn't be inviting friends out to the Roost too often, they won't get in on busy nights. It's stupid but such is life. Any night that's not busy though tends to be less strict. It's a gamble to sum up basically :)
