So I see Calvin Harris is lined up to play, good catch there.

    From the SU email:
    Calvin Harris @ Your Clubhouse
    Tuesday 20th September

Yes, you read correctly! Calvin Harris will be playing Your Clubhouse on Tuesday the 20th of September for Freshers’ Week 2011!

Calvin has had a crazy few years since debuting with the cheekily-titled album ‘I Created Disco’ back in 2007. Since then, he has had six Top 10 singles in the UK, including two #1 singles with ‘I’m Not Alone' and 'Dance Wiv Me’ (with Dizzee Rascal) and has sold over 1.5 million tracks and 500,000 albums.

Since his last album, 2009’s ‘Ready For The Weekend’, Calvin has retired his full-band performances in favour of focusing more on writing and mixing with a variety of different artists. This change has resulted in Calvin touring the world, DJ’ing everywhere from Las Vegas to Ibiza to Australia. He also recently supported Rihanna on tour in Australia and will be the main support for her huge 56 date UK and Europe tour starting in September, where he will perform 10 dates at London’s O2 Arena.

Tickets for the performance will be €15 and will be available from the Students’ Union main reception in the coming weeks. Make sure to keep checking the Maynooth Students’ Union Facebook page (Facebook.com/MaynoothSU) for more information as it becomes available.

There will of course be many more acts also performing in Your Clubhouse during Freshers' Week. Expect more information regarding the full line-up in the coming weeks!

Club Rules Apply. ROAR. Over 18s. ID Required.

Calvin is ok, would rather if it was Example.

Didn't see him at Oxegen but I'll go this time just for the craic.

I'd say that after getting to know the rest of the 1st years it will be some buzz.

Example played at The Gathering in April, so it wouldn't really have made sense to have him here again.

I'd say it will be a good night anyway; freshers' week invariably is.

Eg. and Calvin Harris both in Maynooth a few months apart. That's great going for the SU. They've set a big standard that they'll have to match throughout the year now. I may pay a visit back to see him so long as I get a ticket for it. Should be a great night

Calvin Harris is a big name, that's pretty decent by anyone's standards. Well done SU.

I only know of a few of his songs, but I might go just for the craic. Good haul though SU! Defo make a profit in Freshers Week too (if that was the aim)

Deadly good to see we have secured Calvin Harris. HOpefully he might just doa DJ set as opposed to his own own music like he did at oxegen.

Great coup for the college considering he is probably one of the biggest Djs in the world at the moment.

    Hey,

Just wondering where is the Students Union office?

If I get my offer tomorrow I will definitely be heading up. I plan to buy a combo ticket.

Hi there karaokeman! The Students' Union office is at the top of the north campus, facing the Callan building. You can find it on this map:

Have a look at the Campus Map
The SU is at location 31 and the offices are on the right as you walk in to the left of Chill.

I really hope I can find time to concentrate on my study with all these events going on, but I suppose thats just college life:D

    What's a combo ticket?

If I get in could I buy a ticket during the HEAR week? :)

Basically it gives you access to the Calvin Harris gig and Propaganda with a €2 discount on the price you would pay for two individual tickets.

Be at the SU office on wednesday to buy a ticket, thats what I was told here and on facebook.

Ooh right, I'll get one of those if they're still available during the HEAR week! I'm from Waterford so I couldn't really just go up on Wednesday to get one! :P

Yup, they're the same week! :D At least that's one other person going!haha

I reckon they will be gone by the Monday evening. First week back and the newbies coming in loaded with cash will snap them all up. It'd be different if he was on in November or December I think. Get down there fast and queue a bit before the opening time.

Since it's called "Ball", it's hardly a debs style event if it's in a nightclub, right?! :P

Also would you say I'd pick up a combo ticket on Sunday? Is it open Sunday? :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

You'll need a tuxedo unfortunately, no entry without it...

Nope, it's not a Debs-style event; wear what you'd usually wear on a night out!

I'm afraid the SU isn't open Sundays; we're open 9.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday, with tickets being available from 9.30am to 3pm (our secretary, who deals with ticket sales, finishes at 3pm during the summer).

Definitely sarcasm. But a tuxedo would be one hell of an ice-breaker:P

So when do people expect tickets to run out? I can't see myself being in Maynooth before the 11th/12th of September - is this too late?

You should be grand, I reckon the week lectures start back will be the tough week to get them. Make sure to head to the SU early that week to make sure you get yours :D

How strict are they with ID? I will only be 17 :(

According to people I've talked to; very strict! Apparently they'll check your id, and if they don't believe it's you, they'll quiz you on it/ask for a bank card/student id to match your own id!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

I was never once turned away from the SU when I was 17; all they say to you is take it easy :p Student card is the important ID for getting in so make sure and have it with you. It's the same pretty much everywhere down town too.

hey guys just wondering will registration/orientation week be too late to buy tickets for calvin harris/ball, will they likely be gone by then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭mickstupp

Every time someone mentions that name I think of either Calvin and Hobbes, or Rolf Harris.
