/Can i burn windows installation files to disk from compaq laptop?

    Just got a new compaq laptop and im wondering are the windows 7 installation files on the hard disk somewhere for me to burn to a dvd? It just feels safer doing that then using the recovery utility if i need to reinstall....also i want to dual boot with linux so it would be handy to have in case of any problems.

    If there is a recovery partition on the laptop then you could copy it to a DVD or a USB stick or both.

    There is a recovery partition but im not allowed access through windows. WhenI click into it im shown the compaq logo and told that its a recovery partition and shouldnt be altered

    Try right click on the partition and choose explore, you should then be able to copy the contents.

    If that doesn't work then you could get a linux live iso create a bootable USB stick with it, boot from it and copy the files.

    Yeah did that already but there is 1 file called RECOVERY which is what i can't actually access
