Ul doctor

Hi all

Just wondering what the story with the health services in ul are. Is it free to go to the doctor?

Yup, can be tough to get an appointment at times though.

Thanks a mil! I also just wanted to know if many people who have medical cards had them transferred to ul? Wondering if it's a load of hassle or straight forward?

Seems like I should in case I get sick down there and need medicine but then I'd be worried about getting sick over Christmas etc when I'm home!

Hi, the medical system in UL is a bit of a joke really. They do not provide a GP service, which I think you require for medical cards. (Besides the service is free and cashing in prescriptions with a medical card should be possible in any pharmacy I think - at least that was my experience).

In short, UL do not do bloods, or anything that would constitute a proper medical service. Basically if you go into them with a flu or whatever, you tell them your symptoms and they write you a prescription. The doctors there arent motivated in the slightest and in my own experience when Ive needed them they dont even do a physical exam. Really only go there if you need an I grade because if you are dying they will just tell you to go to A+E, or see your own doc at a convenient time.

That said the nurse is meant to be excellent.

I thought the same until I went to the female doc, Dr.Sheila. She's unreal!

Haven't been to her, will make sure to get her next time (hopefully there wont be a next time though!)
