Loaning money off your parents?

I loaned 500 quid off my Mam last October and she said I could take my time paying her back. I've paid her in bits and pieces, 20quid here and there. Fine.

This week she's on my back about finishing the payments after I booked a holiday in Spain. Now forgive me if I'm wrong, but she said I could take my time.

I've bought her birthday presents and christmas presents etc. but I've not included them in paying her back. An obvious thing to do but worth keeping in mind.

Anyway, we've fallen out over money which I never wanted to happen. Should I cancel my holiday and give her all that money and end up having a crap year with no holiday? I think she's being completely unreasonable about this.

its taken nearly 10 months to pay off 500 quid? even if you paid 50 a month it'd be gone by now, pay up.

Take out insurance policies on her and do her in, its the only way.

Seriously, pay back your debts before booking holidays ffs, thats a slap in the face, getting paid in dribs and drabs while they have enough for a fcuking holiday? I'd be pissed. Don't be selfish! "not counting presents?" ffs lad!

Honestly? I think it's a dick move to not pay her back with money you have to spare. I'm not saying give her every cent after you pay bills and whatnot, but do you really need a holiday? I hate borrowing money because of stuff like this.

The "pay me back whenever" is a age old parental saying so pay her back before booking a holiday,I really hope when you get back she tells you not to unpack coz your out:D

And for God's sake buy her a nice present to thank her for being good enough to lend you money in the first place. And for making her nag you into giving the money back. And for, you know, giving birth to you and raising you. And DON'T deduct the cost of the present from the money you pay her!

I borrowed money off her last year for a trip away in November last.

I'm a student and I do work par-time, but it's tough to have the money to book holidays, hence the loan.

I loaned my brother €600 almost 2 years ago as he was off work and waiting for the dole to come through. Hasn't paid me back one red cent. I'm sure he thought he was getting it for nothing. Still chasing him up about it.

I didn't think she'd be hassling me about it.

I do pay her money each month. It's not like I'm forgetting about it.

"Take your time" means don't put yourself under any undue pressure, not "take a nice holiday at my expense while I scrimp and save because I'm down 500quid".
