Sagem Freesat Recorder

    Hi,

    I have a Sagem Freesat recorder but the picture size on some of the programmes are in 4:3 format and not widescreen. Examples of these programmes are Friends, Judge Judy, alot of programmes on ITV 2,3,4. No matter what setting I change on my Sagem and TV the picture still has black bars on the sides. I have an old Sky box which doesn't have this problem. Is this the same on all Freesat boxes i.e. Humax? Anyone else with a Sagem that has this problem?

    That's the format they were recorded in most likely - so the box is probably showing them correctly, most likely, rather than stretching out a 4:3 picture to widescreen.

    These channels look perfect through the Sky box not stretched or anything. Does the Humax do the same as the Sagem.

    The Humax has a number of settings:
    16:9 or 4:3 – and you can set the picture for Auto, 4:3 Pillar Box, 14:9 Pillar Box, 16:9 Centre Cut Out or Anamorphic.

    I had precisely the same problem with the Sagem, I tried every possible combination of box and TV setting with aspect ratio and the issues persisted.

    Solution was extreme but worth it, I flogged the Sagem, bought a Humax. Problem solved.
